Jackett On Oli Bandwagon

Jackett An Oli Fan

Speaking to BBC Sport, Jackett said "He (Oli) scored a fantastic goal and caused them plenty of power with his power and pace" It is well known that Jackett is a fan of Oli from their time together at QPR and, despite the quality of the opposition, it is easy to assume today that Oli is much nearer a contract than he was prior to the game.

With one of his goals coming from over 30 yards from goal, Jackett will have been impressed but should wait until he has seen Oli in further action before jumping in with the contract offer. Barry should not prove to be too big a test on Tuesday but Hereford next Saturday should give us a better idea of his real capabilities against sides of league quality.

Jackett though was happy with the performance although he did have his doubts for a while

"It was a useful workout, the first one, we dominated the game and created several chances,

"But at one stage I was starting to question our finishing."

Jackett expanded on his thoughts on both Oli and the other trialist Willy Gueret with these words

"I only have a limited budget - maybe I have room for only another two players and one of those will have to be a goalkeeper.

"I've got to ask myself, can Dennis settle outside London - it can be difficult for a lad to do that sometimes. But Oli possesses power and pace and will worry a lot of defenders."

"I'm looking at Gueret's performances in terms of the block fixtures that we now have. I don't think it's fair to judge a player over one game."

The last statement could be worrying for Gueret, and also Swans fans, as it suggests that he was not overly impressed with the goalkeeper's performance that has brought differing reviews from the Swans fans present after the game.

Oli was adamant that he wanted a contract to prove a point to Jackett's former boss Ian Holloway

"The next 13 days could decide whether or not I do get a contract at Swansea.

"I'd love to stay on at the club because the lads have made me feel so welcome.

"I felt hard done by because I didn't get a fair chance at QPR last season. I'm determined to prove people like [QPR manager] Ian Holloway wrong."

Swans are next in action on Tuesday evening at Jenner Park, Barry.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
