Cheltenham Preview

Kenny Jackett will be searching for his first Vetch Field win this weekend as Cheltenham Town arrive at the Vetch in a fixture which has only ever produced draws in the past. Three previous meetings at the Vetch between the two sides have all ended in a stalemate - as have five of the six games to date. It it just over a year ago since a late Lee Trundle hat-trick inspired the only positive result between the two sides in league football and it is somewhat fitting that Trundle seems certain to feature in the matchday squad for the first time this season.

Trundle's two goals for the reserves in midweek will have increased his chances of a starting berth but both Kenny Jackett and assistant Kevin Nugent have said that they do not want to rush him back from his injury. Rumours in Swansea have also suggested that Roberto Martinez will be back in the sixteen players named on the day, although he too may have to make do with a place on the bench. Izzy Iriekpen may also feature after coming through 60 minutes of the reserve game as well.

One win and two defeats was not how we envisaged the season starting and Cheltenham fans have similar views on their current predicament. Swansea will start the game as favourites and will been keen to put on a show for their fans at home to keep the attendances up following the excellent turn out for the Northampton game two weeks ago which saw the highest attendance on the day.

For the Robins John Brough has been ruled out for two weeks with a knee injury but Martin Davaney is on goalscoring form and hoping to continue that against a Swansea side that he claims will be under pressure from the Vetch crowd. "They're at home and they'll be under pressure from the fans so hopefully we can ruin their day. They've already lost a couple of games so they'll be looking to tighten up at the back" Devaney told the Western Daily Press.

Steve Guinan is another one hoping the visitors kick start their season on Saturday after two straight home defeats followed up their opening day win.

"You can tell already the lads have brightened up and haven't let it get to them," said Guinan, at 28 one of the oldest players in Ward's squad. "In the past I've seen young players feel sorry for themselves, but you've just got to put it behind you and think about the next game. "Hopefully come Saturday, we'll see the benefit."

Swans fans will no doubt be hoping otherwise and with criticism already aimed at the manager from some sections of the support it is time, for 90 minutes at least for us all to unite, as we always do, behind the team and hopefully shout them onto victory.

Someone give a shout for me as well because sadly I cannot make this game.
