Colchester United missed the chance to return to the top of the table after a 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town. Southend United's win over Rotherham United meant The U's needed a result at The Galpharm Stadium, but it was The Terriers that took the lead on 14 minutes through Jonathan Worthington. Colchester then went down to ten men when Garry Richards was sent off for a professional foul five minutes after the break. David Graham sealed three vital points for Peter Jackson's side, as they look to strengthen their promotion aspirations. A Lloyd Owusu strike with 12 minutes left gave Brentford a 1-0 victory over struggling Bristol City at Ashton Gate. Barnsley lost ground in the play-off places after a Jason Price double gave South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers a 2-0 win at Belle Vue. Oldham Athletic were held by Bournemouth at Dean Court, while Leon Constantine's strike gave Port Vale a 1-0 home win over Yeovil Town. Gillingham held Tranmere Rovers to a 1-1 draw at The Priestfield Stadium. On-loan Stephen O'Leary gave Rovers the lead three minutes after the break before Darren Byfield earned a point for The Gills with a leveller 17 minutes from the end. Bradford City were also held to a 1-1 draw by Swindon Town at Valley Parade. Dean Windass looked to have given The Bantams the win with a goal on 79 minutes, but Sean O'Hanlon earned The Robins a point with a dramatic late equaliser. Struggling Walsall earned a 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe United at The Bescot Stadium, with Andy Keogh handing The Iron the lead on 19 minutes. Dean Keates equalised on the half hour mark for The Saddlers before Neil MacKenzie restored Scunthorpe's lead just before the break. Things looked worse for The Saddlers after Paul Devlin was sent off for violent conduct on 69 minutes, but Andrew Barrowman made sure there was a share of the spoils in the Black Country. Finally, Milton Keynes Dons boosted their chances of League One survival with a 3-0 win over ten-man Blackpool. A brace from Izale McLeod (26, 87) sent Danny Wilson's side on their way to a vital win, with Scott Taylor (51) also finding the scoresheet for the Buckinghamshire club. The Seasiders had centre back Tony Butler sent off in the second half for a second bookable offence. What to read next:An error strewn and tepid Swansea display ensured thousands left the stadium before the staff and players did their usual walk around at this end of season game. It wasn’t a good look as two players received red cards and any effort by the home side was lost in a static and frustrating display. Today brings the Championship season to a close for the majority of the clubs involved, and the Swans face Millwall at 12.30pm today at the Swansea.com stadium. Just over 1,100 visiting supporters have made the journey in what we hope is a celebration of the end of the season for both clubs. The changing timeline of when Andrew Coleman became Chairmen of Swansea City caused a stir yesterday, our twitter account getting well over eleven thousand views and increasing, which sent website views here in to their many thousands as well. News of Swansea City’s financial position hit home yesterday as the club announced further losses. The profit and sustainability rules are forever hanging over a club, and in Swansea City’s case like everyone else it’s a rolling three year issue. Glyn is back with his favourite stats as we build up to the last game of the season. That comes in the form of Millwall who it seems are close to selling their requested 1,148 allocation, so its down to the Jack Army to do their bit this bank holiday weekend. Swansea City bring this season to a close on Saturday with a home game against Millwall. However, what about those bygone days when footballers had no choice but to go down the pit after their career ended, or open a toy shop, pub or retrain ? That thought would petrify todays modern footballer. We have been told by numerous Swansea fans of a chance meeting in a service station between Jamal Lowe and those returning from Norwich yesterday. Nothing in that or indeed the conversation they had yesterday. Indeed there has to be some interpretation from what we know already on Jamal Lowe. It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional. |
