Brown Considers Premiership Move - But Not Sealed
Brown Looks At Premiership Bench |
"We're 99 per cent certain that it will all be finalised" Swans Chairman Huw Jenkins Maybe not one that was Huw's fault but a last minute intervention from Mark Hughes has seen Jason Brown elect to turn his back on the Swans and enter into talks with Blackburn Rovers. It is believed that Brown has not actually held talks with Blackburn as yet although he will be going to Lancashire next week for talks. As yet there is no concrete offer given to the player and he may yet end up back at Swansea to sign the contract that contains acceptable terms The automatic choice for Brown would be a Premiership club but is a place on Blackburn's bench at best in reality the best move for someone who has just made his international debut? I can always understand players wanting to play at the highest level but unless it seems likely you will feature near the first team there are many examples of players who have chased the Premiership dream and seen careers nose dive as a direct result when longer careers and better prospects may have evolved with a longer spell at a lower division. These are factors that Jason will need to decide on when he arrives at Blackburn for talks next week plus there is always the chance that the offer they make him may not be as attractive overall as the one he has elsewhere. Jason will surely realise that he has much more chance of first team football at the Liberty Stadium then Ewood Park which in turn enhances international chances which in turn increases shop window exposure. This is not to say that Brown will choose Swansea over Blackburn, nor saying that he should do but there is more to this as a factor than just being part of the set up at a Premiership club and throughout the football leagues there are examples of players that can add value to the statement. It's a big week in the career of Jason Brown, for his own sake I hope he makes the right decision. But as it stands at the moment that decision has very much still got to be made and is not quite final. And where there is chance there is hope? What to read next:Today brings the Championship season to a close for the majority of the clubs involved, and the Swans face Millwall at 12.30pm today at the Swansea.com stadium. Just over 1,100 visiting supporters have made the journey in what we hope is a celebration of the end of the season for both clubs. The Indy’s lead football writer, Andrew Winfield goes in deep on this weeks issues and the real problems in store for the Swans. This week has seen some bad financial news for the Swans, and of course more questions than answers yet again. That aside there is some great news from the age grade side at U21 as once again we see a player knocking on the door of the first team squad. The changing timeline of when Andrew Coleman became Chairmen of Swansea City caused a stir yesterday, our twitter account getting well over eleven thousand views and increasing, which sent website views here in to their many thousands as well. News of Swansea City’s financial position hit home yesterday as the club announced further losses. The profit and sustainability rules are forever hanging over a club, and in Swansea City’s case like everyone else it’s a rolling three year issue. Glyn is back with his favourite stats as we build up to the last game of the season. That comes in the form of Millwall who it seems are close to selling their requested 1,148 allocation, so its down to the Jack Army to do their bit this bank holiday weekend. Swansea City bring this season to a close on Saturday with a home game against Millwall. However, what about those bygone days when footballers had no choice but to go down the pit after their career ended, or open a toy shop, pub or retrain ? That thought would petrify todays modern footballer. We have been told by numerous Swansea fans of a chance meeting in a service station between Jamal Lowe and those returning from Norwich yesterday. Nothing in that or indeed the conversation they had yesterday. Indeed there has to be some interpretation from what we know already on Jamal Lowe. It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
