There were few when the fixtures were released last June that would have said that away at Carlisle in April would be such a massive game in the push for the play offs.

After two successive promotions, this season was surely one of consolation for the Cumbrians who are slowly working their way back up the football league ladder. Now the Swans face the prospect of their longest away trip of the season knowing that a defeat for either side could spell the end of any play off ambitions. And whilst the Swans find themselves with a home game to follow, Carlisle face the prospect of an away game at Champions elect Scunthorpe.

And with that in mind, their midfielder Paul Thirlwell says only a win will do. A Swans victory will definitely end Carlisle's chances whilst a home win will see them move two points clear of their visitors, but maybe still outside the top 6.

"The losers of the Swansea game will probably put that team out of the equation," Thirlwell told the Carlisle News & Star. "Oldham can beat anyone on their day but they are in a bit of a bad patch. "It's pretty much as you were and you can't predict what's going to happen over the last two games. "But the Swansea game is a massive one for both clubs and if we can play as we did in the first half against Bristol City, we'll stand a good chance. "We've still got everything to play for and these are the games you want to play in as a professional."
