Garry Monk will never give up on Swansea City

Garry Monk has insisted he will not give up on Swansea City without a fight

Monk who saw  a proposed summer transfer to Bristol City fall through due to a back injury has insisted he will not give up on his career at Swansea City without a fight,Monk who was believed to be not wanted by Michael Laudrup played his first game of the season at Crawley Town on Tuesday.

Speaking to todays South Wales Evening Post Monk said:

“I’ll never give up, I’ve never done it from the start and I won’t do it in my time here,” he said.

“I’ve been injured for about five weeks and there’s been speculation about a loan to here, there and everywhere, but my injury dictated things.

“I’m just thankful to be able to get a run-out because I’ve got to get back and fit, build on this game and see where it takes me.

“I’ve said all along I don’t want to leave the club and hopefully I can force my way into the manager’s plans in some capacity in the first-team squad.

“If it’s not to be we’ll have to assess it again in the future, but right now I just want to get fit.”

“We’ll assess it later down the line, perhaps January, perhaps sooner than that, it depends on how good I feel over the next few weeks,” he added.

“If I can get a few weeks’ training under my belt and it looks like I’ve got absolutely no chance then I’ll have to really have a look at it.

“January is probably the more realistic one if I’m not involved at all by then, but hopefully I will be.

“I can only do what I did at Crawley and try to improve in training, to push the boys who are in front of me and see where it takes me.

“I’ll keep pushing, but also know I have to be realistic.

“I’m not saying I should be starting Saturday, but it will be nice to push a bit harder and see where it takes me.

“That’s what I want in my mind, but also being realistic I know it’s down to what the manager wants.”

Michael Laudrup added:

“It was great that Garry could play 90 minutes.

“He had some cramp at the end, but not enough to stop him jumping for the corner!

“I am happy for him and I am happy for the other players as well because it gives them a good feeling.

“It is a boost for those players as well as the team.”

Monk in the meantime thinks:

“We were disappointed after Everton because it was our poorest performance in a long time, especially in the first half where we did things we’ve not done for a long, long time,”

“It’s not for a lack of effort ever, but we made some individual mistakes, we didn’t play as much as a team as we can and we got punished by a good side.

“We also realise Everton are in good form at the moment so we can’t get too down about it, it’s about how we react and we reacted well at Crawley.

“Hopefully we can carry that on at Stoke.”

Swansea City : The facts on players in and out and the strategy behind it
This week has seen some bad financial news for the Swans, and of course more questions than answers yet again. That aside there is some great news from the age grade side at U21 as once again we see a player knocking on the door of the first team squad.

Gwyn’s Eye View : Swansea City v Millwall
Glyn is back with his favourite stats as we build up to the last game of the season. That comes in the form of Millwall who it seems are close to selling their requested 1,148 allocation, so its down to the Jack Army to do their bit this bank holiday weekend.
The fate today’s Swansea footballers would never have to endure
Swansea City bring this season to a close on Saturday with a home game against Millwall. However, what about those bygone days when footballers had no choice but to go down the pit after their career ended, or open a toy shop, pub or retrain ? That thought would petrify todays modern footballer.
Jamal Lowe : Still to be contacted regards his future at Swansea, Langstaff update
We have been told by numerous Swansea fans of a chance meeting in a service station between Jamal Lowe and those returning from Norwich yesterday. Nothing in that or indeed the conversation they had yesterday. Indeed there has to be some interpretation from what we know already on Jamal Lowe.
Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
