Ash - It Was Nice To Get The Luck

Luck is not something that has gone the Swans way this season. In amongst some poor performances there has been the time where the decisions have gone against them. Stoke and Crystal Palace for example so it was little wonder that Ashley Williams was not bemoaning the luck that saw them sneak a point at the Emirates last night.

You could of course argue that with a bit more luck we could have gone on and won the game had Lee Probert decided that there was ten more seconds in the game when he blew the final whistle but that's for another story.

This time around it was Leon Britton who created the bit of luck and seasons can sometimes turn on the back of the lucky deflection that saw the Swans grab a deserved equaliser on an entertaining evening at the Emirates.

The Swans had battled hard to keep them in a position where they had the chance of that point and you could state that they were probably unlucky to be behind at the moment of the deflected goal but it was a gritty performance with the levels of determination that we need to show if we are to stay in this division for another season.

Captain Williams was not worried though about how the equaliser came as he explained after the game "To get a point against a team challenging for the title is pleasing

"There is an element of disappointment because we led for so long, but on the whole it’s a good point.

"When you’re walking off the pitch you’re thinking was it a point gained or two dropped, but when we reflect on the game it’s a point that takes us to the 30 landmark.

"But I feel that we needed a goal like that. We’ve not had luck like that this season so it was nice to finally get the rub of the green.

"Leon got in there and then had a heavy touch before it took a few deflections. It looked like a comedy goal, but we needed something like that to change our luck.

"People sometimes criticise us for trying to score the perfect goal, but today we had a nasty goal and we loved every bit of it.”

When you reach the business end of the season you are certainly needing the ball to run your way at key times and last night was one of the few times I can recall it happening this season.

After poor home showings against Crystal Palace and West Brom and the unlucky defeat at Everton it is nice to come away from a game knowing that for once it went your way and also that it could have been better had Probert let the game flow at the end.

"We left everything out on the pitch. The boys are knackered but we feel very positive. " added Williams

"It’s important to stay positive. We’ve taken a lot from our performances in Napoli, Liverpool and Everton despite losing.

"If you stay positive then good things will happen.”

That positive viewpoint needs to stay in the mind ahead of the weekend clash with Norwich where we could really reduce dramatically those relegation fears.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
