Is Chico Time Up At Swansea?

And now the reports suggest that Chco Flores is on the verge of leaving Swansea after two years at the club. Would we be right to let him go?

Chico has been one of the most regular features of the Swans line up during the two years that he has been here but he now seems set to line up with former manager Michael Laudrup in Qatar after he was linked with a move to the club.

Nothing official has come from the player or the Swans at the moment but now the local press have also picked up on the story which tends to suggest that there could be more than an ounce of truth in the story and that the Swans could soon be short of one of their central defenders.

Whatever your individual thoughts on Chico - and we will come onto that shortly - we cant really afford to be one down in our options there this season so for me it would mean we have to move back into the transfer market and bring in another player.

We of course have Ashley WIlliams, Kyle Bartley and Jordi Amat as options there but it does not leave much room for injury, suspension or just a good old fashioned lack of form if we only have three options to contend for two places in the team.

It was refreshing yesterday to read that Kyle was ready to fight for his place in the team and he is someone who I know the club value highly and I think he would be seen as the long term partner for Ash should Chico leave.

Chico has often been one of the players that has split the views of his fans. HIs play acting had been pitiful to watch at times and extremely embarrassing from a fan point of view but his defending has - in the main - been solid and he has certainly played more than his part in winning us points in the Premier League.

He is probably not somebody that I expected to leave this summer and no matter what the views I am not sure that the timing is right with the new season just 10 days away.

Chico's departure - should it happen - would continue the Spanish exodus from the club with Pablo Hernandez and Jose Canas expected to join MIchu, Pozuelo and Vazquez in leaving along with now what seems to be Chico.

This one will be interesting to watch unfold as we need a further option in central defence if it happens
