The Swans are back on top of the Premier League after a historic day at Old Trafford that saw them win there for the first time ever and inflict a home defeat on Man Utd on opening day for the first time in Premier League history.
Two goals from Ki Sung Yeung and Gylfi Sigurddson flanked a second half equaliser from Wayne Rooney to give the Swans the opening three points of the season defying all the odds for the game.
The bookies were offering as long as 9/1 for the Swans to open the season with a win but - as we stated in our match preview yesterday we like being the underdogs and it is brilliant to see us winning against the top teams once again.
Last season we managed just two points from forty-eight available against the top teams but we have three already this season as Garry Monk led his side to a famous win. Backed as usual by a massive vocal following from the 2,000+ Swans fans who mocked Louis Van Gaal on his managerial league debut with chants of 'You're getting sacked in the morning' as he started with a defeat in what was supposed to for them be a fresh start following the disaster of David Moyes reign last season.
More irritatingly for me though was the BT Sport coverage which focused almost solely on the Man Utd build up to the game and felt that the three points went to South Wales because the home side were poor rather than through anything good that we managed to achieve. You would assume though that we would be used to this kind of crap coverage by now but it still grates with me when it happens.
At the back Ashley Williams and Jordi Amat - who got the nod ahead of Bartley for this game - were rocks that let little past them at all and Fabianski for me was everything that Michel Vorm was not last season. He commanded his area with great authority and came for balls with confidence that so often we thought was missing with our keeper last term.
The full backs - Angel Rangel and Neil Taylor (and latterly Dwight Tiendalli) were equally as strong although Rangel was guilty of losing his man for the Man Utd equaliser when Rooney got space in the area.
However, it was the midfield that really caught my eye this afternoon with Ki, Shelvey and Sigurddson composed despite some early conceding of possession which was needless. Far from not being able to play together as had been predicted two of them found themselves on the scoresheet and there was much to see from these three that gives us extra reasons to feel confident for the season ahead.
Add to that the form of Bony, Routs and Dyer who made up the starting line up and also Jeff and Gomis (who was brilliant in his short time on the pitch) and you have a team that deserved their win and every credit that goes with it.
There are days where you just love being a football fan and today is one of them as the football season is back and it is back with the first shock which is us picking up three points at Old Trafford.
And for at least a couple of hours - we are top of the league.
