Jonjo Shelvey was basking in the seemingly rare glory of him being the hero yesterday having spent so much of the last month the villain in the eyes of many.
Having earned himself a four game suspension for alleged use of the arm at Liverpool he has been back in the side in the last couple of games and yesterday found himself as the goalscoring hero as the Swans won at Southampton for the first time in over 60 years.
Shelvey struck with just seven minutes left of the game to give the Swans a first win in the league since Boxing Day and lift them back into 9th place in the Premier League table having fallen one place on Saturday.
It was a sweet moment from Shelvey who also hit the post earlier in the half as he filled the gap left by the suspension to Gylfi Sigurdsson for his red card at Blackburn in the FA Cup.
There had been speculation that Shelvey would find himself leaving the club during this January transfer window after some public criticism from his manager prior to the Liverpool game and then his lack of discipline at Anfield.
But with the suspension and the Swans injuries any chance of that happening seemed to evaporate and we will never know had things panned out slightly differently during the month what could have happened but it now seems certain that Shelvey will stay.
And this is something that the player himself wants to happen as he told BBC Sport "I want to stay and fight for my place, that's the main thing
"It's not just on the pitch I've got to do it, but on the training pitch as well. Fingers crossed I can do it.
"We needed the win. We've had a slow start to the year and it was important to get the three points
"My dad said to me before the game, 'just make sure it's good headlines in the morning'.
"It's important for me personally to score a goal because I've had a lot of people criticising me of late.
"I think at Liverpool I was unlucky to get a four-game suspension, but it is what it is and I'm just glad to be back on the pitch."
