Williams - The Players Put Their Bodies On The Line

Captain Ashley Williams saw the Swans earn a draw against Everton in an improved display which was something that he had called upon his players to deliver after the disappointment of the game at Watford last week.

Williams was a rock at the heart of the Swans defence with some perfectly timed tackles as Everton applied some pressure in the second half but ultimately the Swans kept their second clean sheet of the season and took their tally to nine points so far.

The international break two weeks back came with us in 4th place in the Premier League but as we took on Watford last week it was a performance not worthy of what we have grown to expect in the last few years and it was almost certain that we would step up yesterday.

No matter how much at times it seemed as if our goal led a charmed life we had some chances of our own and could easily have run out winners in an entertaining encounter at the Liberty.

"All the players put their bodies on the line today,” said Williams. "You could see the desire in everyone to show the right intentions on the pitch, which we didn’t do last weekend against Watford.

"We wanted to bounce back with a better performance, which I think we did today.

"We knew we had to re-focus coming into this match, we trained like animals all week to get that hunger back into the team.

"We could have been a bit better when in possession, but I think our performance showed we came out fighting.

"It was a typical Swansea versus Everton game, with two teams playing good football, but in the end the draw was probably the right result.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
