Monk Tips Cork For England Call

There is a growing school of belief that Jack Cork will earn himself an England call up when the squads are announced for the final round of Euro 2016 qualifiers that take place in two weeks.

We have long since stated on here that Cork should be in the England squad after some massively impressive displays for the Swans since he moved to South Wales from Southampton back in January.

Cork will return to his former club to play at St Mary's for the first time today and he knows that another good performance will increase his chances of a place in Roy Hodgson's squad.

Cork has featured in every Premier League game for the Swans since he made the move to the Liberty and there is only one that he has not started in - against Chelsea on the opening day of the season when he was an early substitute for the injured Ki Sung-Yeung.

Garry Monk is another returning to Southampton today and he believes that Cork should get that England call when the squad announcement comes around

"I think he can play for England. He is doing as much as anyone else," said the Swansea boss.

"At the time Jack left Southampton because he wasn't sure whether they really wanted him.

"They weren't offering him a new contract and he wasn't sure that he was going to play.

"We'd looked at him the summer before. He opted to stay but he wanted to come then and I thought he was an exceptional player.

"He's very good at what he does and fitted straight in. He's a very respectful person and the bottom line is he's a good player. We're very happy to have him.

"Jack is a winner. That winning mentality is what you need. He is a good professional and he does his job very well and understands what it is to be part of the group."

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
