Reports - Carroll Close To Swansea Return

This mornings newspapers suggest that Tottenham Hotspur's Tom Carroll is close to a return to the Liberty Stadium but the papers are also speculating that he is hesitating over whether to join a relegation fight.

If those reports are right then it suggests that Carroll is happier to sit in the shadows at Tottenham - he has not appeared in the first team for three months - than go anywhere where I guess he is seen as a first team player which probably tells you much about his ambition.

The Swans gave Carroll more Premier League starts (8) in his loan spell here than he has had in his career (4) at Spurs and he has featured in the league for just one minute this season.

Carroll was linked with a move to the Swans before the transfer window opened and this is now reported as being closer to a deal being agreed between the two clubs although it is not widely reported whether it is a loan deal or a permanent one.

It is easy to see why Carroll would not want to join a club where the risk is the Championship next season but it appears that his alternative is to sit on his backside watching the dust gather at Tottenham as I cannot see a whole line of clubs lining up to secure his services.

The second question then comes around to whether Carroll is the right person for the Swans at the moment - his loan spell did not suggest to us that he was about to become the next midfield general but having missed out on Joe Allen in the summer it is expected that we are looking to boost our midfield in this transfer window.

However, we should only ever want players at the club who want to come here and especially those that are up for the fight that we are in so will be interesting to see how this develops following the latest reports online.

Will we have new players in before the Arsenal game?

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with prid. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
