Saints Take A Step Nearer Safety Without Playing

All the Wednesday evening results went as expected meaning Saints are another step closer towards avoiding relegation.

Manchester City cruised to victory against Cardiff, it could easily have been five or six or even more as the home side dominated from start to finish but some good goalkeeping by the Cardiff keeper and a City attack who wanted to walk the ball into the net and showboated meant that a goal at the start and end of the first half left City in charge, but even with a total of 80% possession and 27 shots they couldn't make it three.

Spurs cruised to victory in the first game in their new stadium 2-0 with most of the possession and were rarely troubled in a result that keeps Palace only three points ahead of us and still catchable as we have a game in hand although that one is Liverpool.

Chelsea let us down though, 3-0 up after the hour mark and totally dominant they failed to get the 4th goal that would have seen us go above Brighton on goals scored, however it makes it a little easier for us to overtake the Seagulls in the final run in.

Main thing of the night though is Cardiff losing, although like on Sunday against Chelsea it was a game they should have lost, it still leaves us five points in front of them and they are running out of games to make up the gap.

Their next two games are now do or die facing Burnley away on the 13th and then Brighton away three days later, if they were to lose both of those it would be nearly game over and they would be only able to get a maximum of 40 points, given that their last four games would then be Liverpool at home and then Fulham away, Palace at home and then Man Utd away to finish, the game could be almost up for them by mid April.

Our job now is to get a few more extra points on the table to make that gap insurmountable.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
