First the Palace job collapses for Cooper, now Fulham ?
It has been confirmed that ex Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is in talks today to take over at Craven Cottage. With the news yesterday of the pending appointment of Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace, it’s looking even more likely the lack of new opportunity for Steve Cooper means he will be at the Liberty - at least in the immediate future.
Simon Jordan, a man with numerous and many connections in the game spoke this morning on Talk Sport along with Alex Crook, and he stated "Steve Cooper is really keen to get out of Swansea after their near miss in the play-offs last season. He was one on Crystal Palace’s radar and Fulham’s as well, but that’s seemingly not an option. Jordan added, "But I was told last night that Chris Wilder is in talks with Fulham. I think that would be a really good appointment with his pedigree in the Championship.”
Speaking to a few reliable folk this afternoon the general feeling is that Chris Wilder is Fulham’s number one target, not only does he come with no compensation, he does have experience at getting a side out of the championship. Cooper only has two failures. However, in doing that he has alerted numerous clubs that he is a bright and young manager with a career in the game already which is admirable. Many swans fans would prefer fresh blood at the Liberty, and we can all be rest assured Julian Winter has his sights on who he wants. What he needs though in the immediate is a decision now on Cooper by Fulham, which is looking less likely now Wilder has been interviewed.
This latest revelation now leaves Steve Cooper with nowhere to really go with Palace and Fulham both looking like they will be filling their positions elsewhere.
So Swansea City fans, where do we go from here ?
