Jody Morris now in the frame after Swansea make contact

Don’t expect any quick news now that Julian Winter is wiping egg off his face after a weekend of drama involving John Eustace. Sources close to the club have confirmed that Jody Morris has spoken to the swans but has not been invited for anything formal at the moment.

Julian Winter will be very cautious after the Eustace situation on Sunday, and although he will want a quick solution to this any appointment won’t be rushed. The swans are at Forest Green Rovers ( Nailsworth, Gloucestershire ) on Wednesday night for a friendly match and any candidate, or confirmed candidate will no doubt be at that game. As it stands that game will go ahead pending Covid tests on the unaffected part of the Swansea squad tomorrow morning. Any more confirmations of Covid will see the game called off. Swans fans can attend the game.

Alan Tate has been given the role of looking after the team this and last week with the friendly home game against Southampton on the horizon, so he too will want to know where he stands in amongst the mix for the next swans appointments. Although Tate would take the job we are aware he believes he isn’t ready for such a demanding challenge and would prefer to remain in his current coaching capacity. Mike Marsh is nowhere to be seen still so we conclude he too will be leaving the swans set up. Andy Scott remains in the mix for a step up in a hands on role at the club.

Jody Morris has gathered a lot of experience over the past five years both at Derby and more recently Chelsea and he will be aware of what he can achieve at Swansea. However there is growing concern amongst supporters the identity of the club is being changed by manufactured signings in to the academy from the south east, and now a list of managers from the same area. All of these candidates have little or no experience of South Wales nor the identity the fans have with the club.

Morris in the Chelsea dug out v Valencia

As much as Jody Morris would possibly be a decent appointment, he is completely inexperienced as a sole decision maker and the club he could be walking in to will mean he will definitely need assistants alongside him. Having said all that he has European and premier league experience and the swans could do far worse having dodged the Eustace bullet on the weekend.
