Liam Kitching link and the state of play as the Swans look for defensive back up

Swansea City look to be still in recruitment mode with the last week of the transfer window now with us. Our newest recruit Liam Walters looks at the information we have and the possibilities of at least two new signings for the Swans this week.

** Breaking : We have been told that the signing of Keinan Davis is still on but the Swans have some late concerns and are trying to iron those issues out today. No idea what the issues are.

First off, and despite us being asked to ‘be clever’ on Luke Chambers, and how we report the news on the nineteen year old Liverpool player, it’s now out and seemingly fit for consumption. The link again is agency CAA Base who are working relentlessly to get their players moves this summer. In Luke’s case he is a natural left sided player who enjoyed a reasonable loan spell at Kilmarnock last season. Now back in Premier League 2 his parent club are looking for him to gain more experience at a higher level. Well, the championship is definitely that despite interest from clubs in Germany and France.

Any deal would be a loan for the Preston born midfield / defender who has experience across UEFA competitions at youth and reserve level including keeping Kilmarnock up last season in the Scottish Premiership. He is young and possibly would be considered a gamble especially if the Swans return this week for -

Bashir Humphries
Out of all the signings Michael Duff wants for an early Christian’s present then Bashir is your man. He was close,to a loan move to the Swans around three weeks ago before excelling for Chelsea in their ‘Premier League’ series in the USA this summer.

We reported on Bashir two weeks ago, there was plenty of detail in Keith’s report to consider. That’s all here —> Bashir Swansea link

The issue is Mauricio Pochettino the Chelsea manager, he is still twiddling his thumbs on releasing his star man on loan despite reports to the contrary. Chelsea haven’t made their minds up yet. There is a slim opportunity the Swans could bag their man, but it really is slim. Having said that the Swans have also spoken to Nottingham

Jonathan Panzo
Spent a reasonable loan period at Coventry last season. Here’s what Derek Roberts from the ‘Rangers Review’ wrote on the player. "He’s a talented on the ball even though he didn’t show it in the play-off final when with Coventry. He lacks a bit of consistency when he defends in his box, he gives away a few too many penalties for my liking but I think he has great potential. He’s got something in him, maybe not enough to break into Rangers first-team already but maybe he can resuscitate his career in Scotland”

News today is that the Swans are pressing Forest for a decision on a permanent deal for the left sided defender. Forest are holding out with ten teams linked to the player across Europe. Panzo hasn’t played this season and would require some Duff treatment on the training pitch to get up to fitness. However, he would solve the left sided situation in defence in a three at Swansea - with Nathan Wood still looking favourite to leave this week.

Cameron Humpries
He has been the subject of an ‘inquiry’ to Rotherham United but that as it stands that has gone somewhat cold. The report on Cameron is here —> Two Humphreys

It’s clear the defence is now the main concern for Sporting Director, Paul Watson and Michael Duff. It’s almost guaranteed that the Swans will add to this area of the squad at some point this week.

Rumours & Liam Kitchen
Kasey Palmer is being monitored by a number of clubs with Coventry City believed to be ‘open’ to a permanent deal for the player. News on Liam Kitching the Barnsley left sided defender come centre back is limited but Swansea have been keeping tabs on the player. Barnsley rate him highly at around three million pounds, which to be honest for a player in League One seems a bit steep. The Tykes captain has had an indifferent start to his season with what are being described as uncharacteristic errors in his game, possibly brought on by the interest in him from clubs in a higher league. Liam is seen as a back up to toner potential signings this week, and as we said at three million pounds seemingly priced out of the game when it comes to the Swans for sure.
