Train strikes scupper Swansea City fans travel for Saturday

The Jack Army has long had an impressive turn out at London fixtures over the years, even for evening kick off’s - be that the many exiled and resident fans living in London and the Home Counties or at various locations around England and Wales.

This Saturday there is another train strike affecting travel across the UK. On this occasion it covers national travel and the London Underground which has traditionally been the mode of travel for many fans visiting the New Den. This has been reflected already by the take up on ticket sales for travelling Swans fans. We spoke to a contact at the club who stated that normally, even at this time tickets would be around the six hundred mark with hundreds more projected.

National train strikes have affected travel to games for nearly every club in the country and is disappointing for many despite the reasoning behind it. The union’s general secretary Mick Lynch said: "Station staff have had enough of having their livelihoods threatened by job losses and attacks on their terms and conditions. Station staff have a vital role to play assisting vulnerable passengers access the network safely and ensuring that the Tube is a safe environment for passengers. These job cuts and attacks on conditions are going to lead to more unstaffed stations, temporary closures and rising passenger anger. Transport For London has had its budgets slashed but the savings made by these station staff cuts will be negatable and will lead to shortages that are unacceptable. This strike action will lead to the Tube being shutdown and we call on Mayor Sadiq Khan to meet us urgently to discuss this matter.”

The convenience of travelling to Millwall has always been the fact away fans can embark and disembark at South Bermondsey station, however that is closed this Saturday. Millwall have released information on the game this Saturday.

It’s a shame because a London trip by train is a big part of the football day.

Millwall v Swansea City kicks off at 3pm this coming Saturday.
