Injury news as bad as it gets ? Duff remains philosophical

First off apologies for the site going down yesterday afternoon. Beyond our control. There have been two huge blows for Swansea City this week. Josh Ginnelly and Nathan Wood have received diagnosis on their specific injuries from Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday. And there’s more.

Primarily there is no good news regards this. As we have reported already this week both players have had numerous phases of treatment, and the worst is now known. Josh Ginnelly is out for the season with a ruptured Achilles and Nathan Wood won’t be ready until January. If that isn’t enough Joe Allen is now confirmed as being out until January as well. All three players if fit would have most certainly have impacted on the first eleven.

Is it over for Joe Allen ?

Head coach Michael Duff said today. "Football being football it's an opportunity for someone to come in and grab the opportunity. It's not great in that it's three big players and three long-term injuries. That's why you have a squad. That's why we brought so many in during the summer. We believe in all the players. Joe will still have a role to play now anyway. Woody's a young player so we'll be doing a lot of individual work with him. You can still work with him and coach him and do individual sessions”

Concentrating on Joe Allen (below) Duff added. "We can use Joe’s experience and we can help him in terms of what he wants to do in the future. whether he wants to come this side ( referencing Allen moving in to coaching ) or not, we can give him a feel for what it’s like”

For any side to lose as many players as this, especially as vital as these three are is a huge blow no matter how Duff tries to remain positive on the outcomes. This will almost certainly raise questions on Nathan Wood’s January situation after talks between Southampton and the Swans were held in the summer on a potential transfer. All told Duff is right, there will be opportunities for others to come in to the side and stamp their mark on the team, but the Swans don’t have three players as competent and effective as these three that’s for sure.

We will have more on Joe Allen later today, plus our match day build up looking ahead to this weekend.

Swansea take on Millwall on Saturday at the New Den with a 3pm kick off.

Nathan Wood dilemma : Nothing to do with improvement it’s all about profit and sustainability
Nathan Wood is one player the Swans are keen to sort out this month, especially when it could assist the club with its yearly profit & sustainability (P&S) declarations. it’s nothing to do with improvement or moving players into or out of the squad, it’s about money. Plain and simple.
