Harry Darling 50/50 today v Ipswich Town plus latest news

Harry Darling is undergoing fitness tests this morning as Luke Williams looks to bolster his defensive options before the arrival of Ipswich Town this afternoon at the Swansea.Com Stadium. (KO:3pm) Ipswich come to Swansea on the back of a 4-0 away win at Millwall on Tuesday night.

The Swans have a long injury list which is being added to weekly, and Bashir Humphreys is the latest from the defeat to Leeds in midweek. He will also undergo tests this morning, the defence now has a real desperate look to it. So that’s two defenders who may or may not be available today. In Humphreys and Darling’s cases it’s touch and go. If both are unavailable where Williams looks to enable a right sided back up is anyone’s guess. Does he play Ronald in that position ? But that detracts from a real attacking threat, or a change of formation. Not our concern as supporters but I’m going to hazard a guess Williams current dilemmas are giving him a few sleepless nights.

To be reliant on late fitness tests on the day of a game isn’t ideal, it will determine their availability of course, but Darling has been out for a three weeks and only trained properly over the past few days. The Swans have had more injuries this campaign than seen in many seasons, if at all. The persistence of playing Jay Fulton with Matt Grimes and then leaving Charlie Patino out (he hasn’t played a full ninety all season) with Mykola Kukharevych festering on the bench whilst persisting with Jerry Yates is a frustration for many Swans fans. However, Williams has mentioned there may be some opportunities ahead for the Ukrainian. But to wait this long seems pointless.

The odds are against the Swans today, and with the head coach calling for an upturn in performance on the back of that debacle on Tuesday there has to be some determination on the pitch no matter who plays today.

Here’s hoping.
