Lewis O’Brien new contract rumour cleared up, plus Darling news & Joe Allen

The news behind Lewis O’Brien signing for the Swans yesterday for another season has been a matter of interest for many Swansea fans.

Conjecture on how this has been achieved, and certain accounts reporting the matter on social media have either been hoodwinked by whatever source they believe is correct or have lost the information in the mix. Last night was the Swans awards evening and with the beer flowing much was discussed. It’s a shame because revelations such as this give a lot of hope to our Jack community.

Unfortunately after several discussions this morning we can confidently state that Lewis O’Brien has not agreed to stay on at Swansea City for another season as it stands. If there is an agreement in place to do so which would have to be in his original loan details when he came to Swansea, that hasn’t been triggered. In any event the timing before the season ends would not allow this to happen. If there is something in O’Brien’s contract it isn’t known by two external sources we speak to away from the Swans. And they would know.

This news from last night isn’t to be dissed in any way though. The people who do sit up above the parapet and post these things can only repeat what they have been told. As of this morning there is no agreement in place for Lewis to play for the Swans next season. There will be talks, and they will take place but he is a contracted player to Nottingham Forest, so official agreements cannot be made. Of course unofficially the Swans have already scoped what Forest want for O’Brien, and the figures aren’t at this moment in time acceptable to Swansea City. They are achievable but they would most certainly affect quite drastically the Swans targets for this summer. The same applies to Harry Darling and his requirements to sign for the Swans.

We have been told. "Your club have a very much improved set up at the moment. You have a new team of data analysts and the ability now to physically scout and talk with players of interest in Europe as well. A more hands on approach, unfortunately this doesn’t apply to Lewis O’Brien who is tied into a lucrative contract at Forest”

We reported on this last week.

⚽️ Lewis O’Brien

We can only hope there is a deal in the future but as of today that isn’t the case.

On Harry Darling not being at the awards in Swansea last night there is an explanation. His current injury identified pre Millwall is the reason for his non attendance. He is also a doubt for Saturday now, and could have played his last game under his current contract for the Swans. There will be talks, but he is aware if bigger offered elsewhere.

Our last report on Harry is below.

⚽️ Latest on O’Brien & Darling

This is one occasion where we really hope we have got this all wrong, but it seems not and the situation is very much the same as it has been. Darling will be spoken to as will Nottingham Forest but nothing in terms of a deal for either player has been agreed. What we can reveal is that Joe Allen has been offered terms to remain at the Swans for next season. His contract will be more like pin money for a man of his financial stature, but he is keen to stay on at the Swans.

On other matters we highly recommend you give the podcast below a listen. (Swans podcast)
