I see thousands are gathering at Runnymede for the 800th anniversary of signing the Magna Carta.

How ironic that David Cameron is there for an "elaborate commemoration of the historic text, within which the foundations of parliamentary democracy, human rights and the supremacy of the law over the crown were first enshrined."
This is a document which gives us the people absolutely no rights at all. It is not enforceable in a court. It's a nice story, and an important part of our history, but the document itself is valueless today.
And yet, in parallel, he is trying to remove the Human Rights Act. Legislation which is enforceable by us all to protect the foundations of our human rights.
You couldn't make it up.

The principles should stand up in a court, but of course they don't as they are overruled by political legislation which masquerades as law.
The human rights act is again legislation and is not binding under law, but down to the discretion of individual judges to interpret as they think. |  | | |
