As a dad with two young girls I assure it's not the results I want. |

See for me, I haven't found the time to become a climate scientist, so I defer to the judgement of people who have on this one. |

Regarding the Green Party and HS2: I spent a brieft period as a member in 2008 or so, and there is a wide spectrum of members, from ecosocilaists to NIMBY-preservationist types. The Green Party has a uniquely decentralised model, which is admirable in manner ways, but does mean messaging can be muddled. As I understand it the opposition to HS2 is specific to a short section that passes through some particularly ancient forest or something, and is a concession to that fragment of the party. Under a different Party structure I suspect the support for HS2 would be less ambiguous, as it is clearly a net benefit and exactly the kind of infrastructure project a progressive country that takes climate change seriously should be doing. |

Sometimes I wonder how the country got into such a mess. Then i see people are describing a piddling increase in taxation in order to fix public services as Marxism. |

It'll take some kind of crisis -- but maybe a party with a mega majority on about 35% of the vote should be considered a crisis for democracy |

Yeah a whole new generation of voters since then, that are accurately aware of being locked out of political representation [Post edited 15 Jun 10:14]

I think it's taken from Thoreau "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things" |

I recall Cifiuentes mentioning him in one of his first interviews as a player who "got" how he wanted the team to play. Definitely potential to be a good player for us, can see him being a solid midfield all rounder |

"Labour and Tories have facilitated his ascent by not tackling social issues enough. They have left him the space to fill." Similar dynamics playing out in France, the US and elsewhere. Very predictable and frustrating to watch. Step 1. Totally deligitimise the left. Maybe call them antisemitic, Czech spy, something about Putin. Step 2. Install a centrist, maybe a technocrat, certainly not anyone with a policy platform fit for the challenges of the country. If he's visibly in advanced stages of cognitive decline that's great Step 3. When it becomes apparent everyone's lives are worse then they were four years ago, allow far right to fill the political vacuum. Looking forward to PM Braverman |

Nvidia Shield is a small media box you plug into your tv, like a more powerful firestick . It's operating system is Android, so it feels and looks a lot like an android smart phone, very intuitive. And it has Google Playstore installed, so very straightforward to install apps. Real Debrid is a torrent service, torrents being a file sharing protocol. You pay a small fee, and let real debrid find the file you are looking for e.g. a film or tv show. You need a media player to actually play the file. I use Stremio (installed from the play store), with an addon called Torrentio. Getting this set up so that it talks to Real Debrid is a bit fiddly, but well worth the effort imo. There are some good online walk throughs. And you can of course subscribe to an IPTV provider to watch live sport etc, via the TiVi mate app from the Play store. Again, a little bit fiddly. I use IPTVoid, and they walk you through setting it all up. [Post edited 10 Jun 9:41]

Big fan of this too. Variable quality but always interesting, and when it's good it is really good. Some of my favourite episodes: - 12 days of christine. One of my favourite half hours of tv ever. Ive watched it loads of times and still love it. Loads of clever clues to whats going on sprinkled throughout, very creepy, and a real emotional punch, pretty much perfect tv. Gives me chills, the final scenes have so much pathos. Sheridan Smith is superb and really sells it. - the devil of Christmas. Another Christmas episode but couldn't be more different. So grimy, so bleak, so good - riddle of the sphinx. Very clever writing. Apparently they set the guardian crossword that week to coincide with the show. [Post edited 10 Jun 3:33]

Come on, that's disingenuous, clearly not what I'm saying. I thought you were saying "the UK is mostly white so of course they have more rape convictions", so i said that based on uk demographics, they are in fact disproportionately likely to be convicted of rape, which is at odds with what is frequently implied on here. Any way, grim topic, and don't want to get into a bad faith row over it. |

Well, on this simple metric the UK is 83% white, so it would appear they're over represented |
