| News Comment | Southampton Interested In Bournemouth Defender at 09:48:39
Don’t you find it amazing that so many deals are being announced as being completed when we are still in June, not yet July 1st, and outside the transfer window? Are you expecting clubs such as West Ham and Newcastle who announced signings yesterday to be docked points for breaching Premier League rules? Or do you now take on board the existence of post-dated contracts? |
| News Comment | These Are The Six Positions That Southampton Need To Fill For Premier League Survival at 10:06:04
You are wrong about July 1st being important. There are plenty of transfers happening. The contracts being signed may be dated July 1st perhaps but there is no reason not to agree and sign now. You are also wrong about THB not happening until July 1st — that deal is contained in last year’s contract signed by both clubs and the player. Otherwise it could all fall down by any party trying to get a better deal at the last minute. We have six first team centre halves now with the returning loanees, so I don’t see us adding any more until we have offloaded a few of them. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leeds United The Verdict at 10:34:09
You very nearly got through a whole piece without the usual regular misuse of the apostrophe. Shame about the “it’s” two paras from the end. Any chance you could work on using the ampersand correctly now? That annoyance has crept in in recent weeks. Would have been nice if you had been big enough to report that Jack Stephens had a good game yesterday too! |
| News Comment | Saints Striker Could Be Banned For Striking at 12:55:17
Somewhere in the back of my mind is that these things can’t be reopened if the referee and linesmen didn’t see it. What evidence is there if they don’t provide it? A television wideshot?? If these incidents can be reopened after the event shouldn’t we be more worried about the winning goal?! |
| News Comment | Southampton At Ipswich Town The Preview at 13:42:40
We didn’t really have any choice in playing Stevens with Bednarek on 9 yellow cards and the limit going up after Friday. You could have been big enough to mention Stevens’ brilliant goal saving last ditch tackle which was brilliant. On this occasion it was the forwards’ fault we didn’t win. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Millwall The Verdict at 14:35:57
I think this selection, not risking Downes and resting Adam A in particular, may have had one eye on the Liverpool game. That would have been fine had we actually won the Millwall game. |
| News Comment | Alcaraz Set To Complete Loan Move To Italian Giant at 10:59:25
We do now have a lot of very good championship level players, and a few more coming back from season-long loans in the summer. How many are PL ready if we go up? Alcaraz was one and maybe the Man City imports will all be OK. I don’t see much else… We are likely to see a Nottingham Forest style summer me thinks, with a dozen leaving and as many arriving. Could be like thst even if we don’t go up. |
| News Comment | Newcastle Pull Out Of Romeo Lavia Chase at 14:04:04
I think there’s a sell on clause so if we sold for £50m City would get maybe £10m of that, so keeping him a year and earning 40 next year and keeping goodwill with City would be the best option. We could get their next wizzkid in exchange maybe too. Same thing with Tino, let Chelsea have him back when they want him and not antagonise them by selling the player to a rival. |
| News Comment | Fixture Release Should Coincide With Managerial Appointment For Saints at 15:01:08
You banged on last year about nothing will happen until July 1st when bonuses (note no apostrophe) are paid. This is incorrect. Plenty of transfers are being announced with contracts signed now. Just like any other contract, such as buying a house, the contract can be agreed and signed at any time. For various reasons such as the bonuses you mention the contract might be dated July 1st but there is no need for clubs to sit on their hands and wait until July 1st to do business. |
| News Comment | Saints Linked With Ex Bournemouth Winger at 14:39:13
A non-starter of a story. Too old, not likely to significantly increase his value, therefore not in the business plan. Not really a prolific goalscorer so also not what we need. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Arsenal The Verdict at 13:20:55
I think Nick came very close then to agreeing that we have four decent centrebacks (not including Stevens, Bednarek still on the books or the Tranmere loanee I can’t remember his name for the moment and any kids on the way up.) That’s progress in itself! Ralph got unlucky with KWP’s injury just before a game with Arsenal. I’m sure Maitland-Niles was signed in part to provide cover at right back. At least he can now play there until Livramento or KWP are fit again. |
