Pritch got monstered by their number 2 (Benn) throughout the first half both physically and pace. Was hoping he and Tobi would swap when this became obvious mis-match. Galvin sub sorted that issue.
With Hartlepool being jolly unsporting and pressing our back line, we got to see 2024/2025 style scare moments of us trying to lose the ball on the edge of our box numerous times first half.
With the Sandy having kittens behind him, Broome and co went long but we kept rhe same Plan A set up. Gilmour and East 50 yards from the front line which meant any knock down was gobbled up by a Poolie.
That is the take away from last night, working out how we play when opposition nullify Plan A.
Well played Hartlepool, fantastic first half tactically and application. Second half Dark Arts skills shown also. Really good in midfield, aforementioned Benn outstanding going forward and pint-sized irritant Campbell a thorny problem throughout too. |

464 bus runs direct from Rochdale to Accrington centre, 20 min walk to ground.
Only issue is last bus leaves at 21:25 back.
Not useful for this game but can be used both ways for 2nd game on Sat. |

Well played Morecambe, unlucky on the result.
Whether we were under-par or Morecambe made us under-par with their work rate and strategy is irrelevant in term of points, but relevant in terms of game assessment.
Their keeper had a blinder, Hendo header first half, 2 pens, Smith shot, Waller header and that was the only difference in the end, the chances we created to day were good shots/chances - theirs perhaps not so.
Gutsy wins should be lauded as much as dominant wins and that is what we got today. |

I retraxt.
Brook could have 20 warm up matches and he would still not be able to sort his head out.
It’s almost as though he chooses the perfect moment to give his wicket away in an embarrassing fashion to the advantage of the opposition.
This was the same in the India series that we managed not to win.
What happens result-wise is irrelevant now, ashes gone, really not bothered if we get whitewashed.
Duckett has to be dropped. Cannot bat on these wickets
Pope has to be dropped. Cannot bat on these wickets and doesn’t appear to be able to control attacking urge (aka Harry Brook mentality)
Supporters will defend Brook saying he is so good that he should be free to play how he likes (see Kevin Pietersen career) Difference was, when it came down to it, KP knew when to knuckle down.

Another notable thing was how well we played on a fantastic pitch.
It does underpin our style of play and hopefully the new pitch will bring same benefit. |

Tremendous win.
Another clean sheet, Alti certainly challenged us second half until the quick break goal.
Fine debut from Waller, his side with Galvin seemed to be the only wing Alti wanted to try attacking down, both stood firm.
Keeper made a great save early on in second half, that was critical to the bigger picture.
Squad depth is there for all to see with calibre of subs used. |

Tough game expecte by me.
They were very good at Spotland and but for a bit of Taryn magic, nothing between the teams.
They have won the last 3 at home.
