It’s the reaction on x to Vines statement which is most worrying. How people think like that is beyond me . |

Agreed Brian . Got home from work early and it was a treat. Turkey , Georgia last night was an absolute belter . Michah Richards came out with the lazy stereotype of “spirited “ Georgia . They were much more than that . |

Empty vessels make the most noise. As the “great” Ronan keating said. You say it best when you say nothing at all. He’ll always find an audience who will swallow his bullshit. He’ll end up joining some nut job political party no doubt. |

I’m all for a phased transition to clean energy. It will take time because I honestly think that sucking black shit out of the ground , burning it and putting it back into the atmosphere is not very good idea in the long term . We’re seeing the effects already. |

Very similar situation in my case with my mother in law who herself came here in the 50s. She was A lovely German lady with a wicked sense of humour. She was looked after in various care homes by people who had come from abroad. In most cases brilliantly. Great post by the way. |

Love Johny Marr . Love the Smiths . Always thought he’d be the big star after the Smiths broke up . Turned out to be Morrisey. Thought the same about Stone Roses . John Squire upstaged by Ian Brown . What a pair of bells Morrisey and Brown turned out to be . |

I’m listening to the Nicky Campbell interview with Farage as we speak. The same issue of fruit pickers and care workers has come up. He says we don’t need them . He didn’t offer any solutions as to how we replace them sadly . He never does. When questioned about his reform colleague, Ben Habib who commented that asylum seekers shoud be left in the sea if their dinghy overturns in the channel. Mr Habib is a man of Pakistani heritage which makes his views even more baffling. Farage refused to condemn his comments. I just turned off in disgust at that point. Where’s the humanity. |

Seen them at Brixton academy back in 2000. Wonderful gig . If I hadn’t seen such riches , I could have lived with being poor. Now that a line! |

Funny enough I went out with a trainee nurse back in the eighties. She was stationed at Archway hospital and she was provided with a bursary to help with her living costs. When she qualified she ended up doing mostly agency work because it paid so much better. Another example of money being chucked down the drain because a normal day job would pay half the money. Steve is bang in about the insistence on people going into universities and higher education. Get people on properly paid apprenticeships Make it worthwhile and then it would make us less reliant on labour from abroad. The main problem is the menial jobs which are low paid and not particularly enticing to people in this country. They have to be filled and the idea that we just allow highly skilled people is not the main problem. |

I came to the UK in 1987 as an economic migrant . Not much opportunity for employment in Ireland back then and we were actively encouraged to get on our bikes (As Norman Tebbitt famously said) by the Irish government at that time. Since then I’ve worked in the building industry and thanks to this country I’ve made a decent living. I’ve noticed in the last ten years ago or so it’s increasingly difficult to find young English labour to come into the industry. My trade is plastering , mainly basements . It’s bloody hard work and to be honest, we’re increasingly relying on foreign labour to fill gaps. The same can be said for other industries like care homes and fruit pickers Nigel Farage wants to put a stop to these type of workers coming into the country but as usual doesn’t offer any solutions. Not sure what the answer to these problems are . Pretty certain the politicians don’t either |

Had a mate from work with me in safe standing for the Preston game. He’s a Liverpool fan from Cheshunt ( yeah I know.) He absolutely loved it and was struck by the atmosphere and mostly by the abuse being meted out to the opposition players . I remarked that this was part of our job as fans to make the opposition feel uncomfortable and make the place an absolute bear pit. Let’s keep it that way. |

If he has a good season which we’re all hoping he will likely be off . If he flatlines , he won’t be of any benefit to anyone. Big season for him either way . |

Best thing to happen at Loftus road for years . I’m in N block and it’s transformed the atmosphere. Got to know Lot more people as well as it more fluid to move around. I’ve always hated sitting at football and even though I’m in my sixtieth year, I’m a sprightly one so looking forward to many more years there. |

Hope he pulls through. He always looked a picture of health. I think he was “protected “ by Liverpool in the same way Giggs was for Man Utd. On the other end of the caps spectrum . Phil Neville got forty plus caps for England.Another one of life’s mysteries. |
