The miss wasn't shocking, the pass he wanted left him in the middle of the goal with a tap in, the one he got was heavy and meant he had to go to the far post to get it under control and shot giving them time to get on the line and block it. he should have scored but it was a crap pass

I also thought the pass was poor but nevertheless Eze may have had more success if he'd hit it first time. Perhaps he's only used to playing with strikers who are greedy and will never look to find a colleague who is better placed than they are. Washington rarely who isis so reluctant to shoot himself. Well when I say shoot himself

Bloody computer. Trying to type, Washington often looks to pass instead of shooting when through on goal. Is he afraid to miss or just lacking in confidence?

Not especially, but clearly it isn't his fault. He inherited a team who'd lost all it's good players and isn't good enough.

I think it's more the fault of the hysterical people who call for the sacking of our manager every single season after two matches.

Would still love to know the details of the discussion between the board and McLaren when he took the job.

Did the board seriously think that with Smithies, Onuoha and Robinson likely to head out the door, we could replace like for like within the confines of FFP and do better this season than 16th place?

McLaren must think he's been sold a pup.

Or did McLaren agree to all the FFP restrictions prior to taking the job but thought once he was in he'd be able to sweet talk Fernandes into opening up the wallet. Would hardly be the first manager to do so and wouldn't be the first time Fernandes gives a manager what they want to the detriment of the club.

Can't say I'm a fan of McClaren, but I am surprised at how poor he's been as our Manager/Coach.

I would have thought a man with his experience, would have at least sorted our defence out.

Even with the players we have, we are so unorganized and all over the place,

I've no idea what he's doing in the coaching sessions, whatever it is, it's crap.

Hmmm. "Coaching" is overrated in my opinion. The best coach in the world isn't going to turn mediocre players into quality ones, McLaren is a good coach but he can't legislate for the mistakes made on the pitch by poor players and it's not like he has quality replacements knocking on the door to come in is it? You could get someone like Guardiola in (not that he would come of course, a top coach would take one look at the quality of our players and wouldn't touch the job with a bargepole) and you wouldn't see a lot of difference. It really does look as if, under the ludicrous FFP stipulations, that we simply cannot afford the players we need to compete in the Championship. Yes, other clubs on small budgets still manage to scrape an existence but they have had years to bring in the kind of relatively cheap, limited but hard working players to achieve that. We are playing catchup with that model I think. Eventually we will get there but it may take a relegation and a few seasons in League One to do it. The alternative is for the owners to ignore FFP and spend money again, then hope they can argue the case against any future punishment. That seems unlikely.

Don't think he lost all his best players. Smithies going was a blow but apart from that Onuoha left an would have struggled to play out from back. Mackie, Perch and Robinson had moments for us but were not great.

He took over a squad with Luongo, Scowen, Freeman, Smyth, Bright Samuel, Eze, Manning, Wsoleck, Bidwell, Furlong, Kakay and Smith. It's not a terrible squad, he should be able to make them organised and look half decent. We've had squads with far worse players like John Curtis, Chris Barker and Bob Malcolm and look better than this

Hmmmmmmmm - apart from the missed open goal - something that CW would have been slated for - 2nd half he rather strangely started just booting the ball forward aimlessly.

He was average last night, not alone in that, but average nevertheless and that miss WAS shocking!

I was in the front row of MU almost directly in line with Eze and IMO, he is completely blameless for that missed opportunity; my reasoning is that he was moving into the space where he was looking at a tap in but had to arrest his movement, as the ball was fired into his feet rather than in front of him and it just got caught up. I'm of the opinion that CW is a busted flush at QPR unfortunately and that is a pity as his industry is faultless.

The grass is always greener.
