Count down to the Colchester Cricket, Beer and Cider Festival. 06:38 - Jul 29 with 1184 viewsnoah4x4

The Festival starts Thursday 3rd August in Castle Park and features…

Friday 4th August CEECC versus Lloyds of London (11.00am). Friendly.
Saturday 5th, CEECC versus Brentwood (11.00am). Essex Premier League.
Saturday evening - popular covers band - Cushti.
Sunday England v Australia - Silver Ashes. National Anthems 11-45 am.

30+ real ales, 15 ciders, multiple craft ales in conjunction with Two Brews.
On site catering, burgers, hot dogs, and various (van) concessionaires including ice cream. Daily Admission £3 includes souvenir glass and programme.

The BBC Essex broadcast “Around the wicket” which can be found at
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0fxr4z8 features Beth Barrett-Wild talking about the Hundred and then Castle Park and the Silver Ashes gets a brief mention on 37 minutes followed by a ten minute interview with our Kiwi star Adi Ashok, who joins the Blackcaps T20 squad after the Beer Festival, so there is one more opportunity to see him in action in Castle Park. Next Wednesday, this regular weekly local cricket programme will have a longer feature on the Silver Ashes, which also got a mention in yesterday’s Sky Test Match broadcast.

It’s going to be a blast “Baldy Army…Baldy Army”……..

That is one hell of an ale list!

What's the Silver Ashes?

Hopefully the rain doesn't spoil the week!

England hope to retain the 'Silver Ashes' which the Australians failed to prise away from them on home turf, in February.

The England Selectors have named an over-70s squad of 15 for the series: John Evans (captain, Gloucestershire), Derek Towe (vice-captain, Kent), Ian Cause (Lancashire), Steve Shepard (Somerset), Trevor Spindle (Berks & Bucks), Andy Peters (Surrey), John Hall (Surrey), Nick Andrews (Cams/Hunts), Simon Sargent (Essex), Mike Stafford (Middlesex), Chris Swadkin (Kent), Martin Southwell (Essex), Tim Smith (Essex), Mick Kenyon (Yorkshire), Nigel Bellety (wicket-keeper, Gloucestershire).

The Castle Park One Day international fixture takes place on Sunday, August 6, starting at 12.30pm.

Poll: No half measure either 1 or 2 ?

National Anthems at 11:45 is the latest information I have. The Aussie does have multiple verses!

Yes, it is one hell of a beer list. Loads of new scratches….

There is now (fun) T20 cricket on the Thursday evening involving a large party from a Colchester Estate Agency, that’s in addition to the all day fixtures on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Superb covers band, Cushti on Saturday, recorded music on other evenings.

Beer Festival all set up ready for its opening at 11-00 tomorrow (Thursday).

Weather not looking great, but marquee dry and cosy.

Thanks go to Colin (Crouch Vale Brewery), Paul of Two Brews and Richard (Victoria Inn) for their assistance. In addition to the impressive range of cask ales and ciders, we now have a splendid array of craft beers and cans available.

Sadly, cricket is cancelled (weather). It’s a real shame as Brentwood CC had selected Essex CCC First Teamers, Ben Allison and Will Buttleman, whilst CEECC were also full strength. It was also to be Adi Ashok’s last game for CEECC before joining the BlackCaps T20 Squad. But we are now open for Beer and fittingly, Adi has bought the first pint!

So why not join us before and after the Swindon game. 30 real ales are tapped, 15 ciders, 6 craft ales on tap, dozens of Two Brew cans. Plus covers band Cushti tonight in the marquee.

Tomorrow, Sunday, the weather looks more promising and we host the Silver Ashes. The pitch is covered and Castle Park drains well so we hope to at least end the festival with some cricket.

Last day today, and the Silver Ashes is ON!

Fantastic work by Jez Sadler, groundsman.

All 30 casks, 15 ciders, 6 craft ales and multiple craft cans are still available too, albeit some getting low.

Admission £3 includes glass and programme

Good to see a decent crowd at Castle Park today, some of whom l had not seen in many years.

The set up in the marquee where the bar was situated was very impressive.

Enjoyed my shift in the kitchen this morning and will drop by early tomorrow for washing up duty if required.
