It was a good listen apart from that weird bit at the end about the vet and a dogs teeth but I was surprised how calm everyone was about the bad run, I don’t think it should be all out panic but there was a lot more panic last season when in a similar position. maybe there is more trust in McClaren to come out the other side but for me this season could just as easily end in relegation as it could us finishing 12th.

One thing I’ve been disappointed about is the use of the kids this season, the good results and performances from October — January made that all a bit irrelevant but whilst Holloway was ultimately sacked for dropping kids in and out of the side there was a method to that madness in giving them a taste of the first team then dropping them out and then back in again. It may have been frustrating but by the end of last season Paul Smyth. Bright Samuel, Eze, Manning, Lumley, Oteh and Chair all had a fair few games in the first team with the fans demanding more. Now we have gone from that to the kids either playing every game until fans are sick of the sight of them or never playing at all. I thought an ideal season this year would see those players dipped in and out of the side and improve under better coaching ending the season playing about 10/15 games each which won't be the case now.

I won’t pretend to know which way of doing it is right but for all the good McClaren has done and the excellent results in that good spell plus the cup run it feels best case scenario this season is we end it as a club in the same position as last year with a group of kids we need to build the team around who haven’t got a great deal of experience at Championship level. The closer we get to the summer the more frightening next season looks.
