Very sad, but what an inventive musician. I think I remember (memory not what it used to be!) seeing him at the Lyceum probably in the 80s - an evening of endless melodies woven together in a continuous stream. If anyone can confirm that would be great. Good to see some jazz fans among the Rs faithful. At one of my earliest games, probably the famous 75-76 season, there was a guy standing on the loft terrace holding a Coltrane album - a sure sign that we attracted 'cool' supporters! |

There's still a lot to be said for breasts... if I remember correctly. |

Agree we should consider this. Love Loftus Road but my knees don't. Transport links would be a big plus. |

On the West London pod they talked about needing to rest Kone and maybe just give him 60 minutes. I thought that sounded very sensible, but he really took his chances in those last few minutes. Very glad he stayed on - he deserved those goals for his effort as much as anything. But like most I'd still make Smyth MotM. |

Yes! When we downsized and had to sadly 'let go' a lot of books I definitely kept this. A magnificent achievement. |

Blackburn were better than I'd expected. They were well organised when defending getting in crucial blocks, won a lot of 50:50 balls and attacked with precision when we let them. Not sure about a new manager bounce but I guess they were glad to be rid of Ismael, who would have made sure they were fit and ran hard. In the first half we created pressure in their defence, but only the one beautifully taken goal by Saito. After they scored the third early in the second half we lost the plot. The passing was woeful, clumsy first touches, poor decision making (especially Smyth) and we were slow to the loose balls. The subs were as good as Stephan could manage but the effect was to disrupt us even more. Bennie was poor. I don't want to be hard on a young lad, but in the several opportunities he's had he hasn't shown why the coaches have so much faith in him. Cook and Dunne seemed at fault for all 3 goals, so with Cook subbed off and Edwards moved into the middle this maybe one of the last times we see Steve.Cook start for us. He's been a great servant. For the first 2 goals there was no protection in front of the back 4. Not sure if Hayden went missing, but with Madsen playing further forward (as we would want) the defence was exposed. Any bright spots? Not really, but maybe JCS on the bench is promising, but seven of 100% fit will he get in the team? And possibly the worst blow of all is if Madsen is out for any length of time. The rest of the season may be grimmer than we hoped. |

When Burrell is fit there's a challenge for Stephan. Koni looked better because he played as a 9. With Burrell in the team he plays deeper and I'm still impressed with him but we probably don't get the best out of him. Not sure how Kone, Vale, Chair and Burrell fit together? But there'll probably be another injury before Chair and Burrell are fit. But hey, great to dream about those options. |

Sick as a parrot! Rangers didn't deserve to lose, but they did let Wrexham back into the game in the 2nd half after a dominant first 45 when we should have scored more. Before Mbengue's red Smyth had been in danger of getting a 2nd yellow - maybe why Stephan took him off, but Stephan could have made some subs earlier as we'd clearly lost control of MF. We did so well to get back to 2-1 with a beautiful goal from a corner that caught Wrexham sleeping. And then Mbengue tried to kill Thomason (I think) and the red seemed inevitable. What shouldn't have been inevitable was we seemed to panic, lose shape and Wrexham were fired up and possibly lucky with 2 late strikes. |

The drug trade bringing coke from South America is a brutal, vicious, cruel business. Having a few lines for fun puts money in the pocket of very nasty people and means more people down the chain are cruelly exploited. Moral lecture finished. |

Agree with every word. Fitness is clearly a thing for this squad and it's interesting Nourry is so defensive about it. I wonder if the pre-season training plans were set up before Stephan started and certainly before he'd settled in and had much influence. So might next season see a fitter team or is the theory we shouldn't overload pre-season correct? I don't know enough about this stuff but it does seem something isn't right. |
 | Forum Reply | Ronnie returns, but is it the handsome deal QPR hope? – Signing at 12:08 10 Jan 2026
Agree that this signing is not necessarily a panacea, but if he was available and we can afford him he is an upgrade. But one of the glaring weaknesses in defence is the goalkeeper. None of Walsh, Nardi or Hamer are good enough. Without a reliable goalie behind them our defence will always concede. And then there's the LB? But must remember this is so much better than the last couple of years. |

Well, at least that puts to bed any illusions about the play offs. We were second best for most of the second half, lacked energy and were too easily muscled off the ball. We do need to have a bit of sympathy for the team. Mbengue, Poku, Kone, Burrell have not played much or at all at Championship level before this season and Dembele, Morgan and Kolli are also pretty inexperienced. Madsen didn't show much last season so in some ways this is his first proper season and as others have said he needs a rest. Playing 2 in the middle, nearly always Madsen and Varane, was always likely to see us over powered there at some point, something much debated last season but not really discussed this year. I thought Hayden was ok and Morgan a bit hyper when he came on, though he did manage one lovely through ball to Poku. Both are worth more time on the park in my view. I wonder about the pre-season fitness work. Nourry said they'd upped this compared to last year, but I suspect Stephan had little to do with that. They don't look as strong as some of our opponents at the mid point of the season. Although today was poor and we're obviously on a bad run with several players out of form overall this does feel better than the same point last year. But I am dreading Sheffield Wednesday. |

Our performance was dreadful, but bad in a different way to some other bad games. We've put in a few dud efforts in the last couple of years, but they've usually been miserable, lifeless, inert performances. Although we passed out from the back, or failed to pass out from the back on far to many occasions tonight I didn't think we were lifeless, just bad. Have we ever given the ball away so often or played a team mate into trouble as frequently? Just rank bad decision making. Of course given all the changes this may have been inevitable, but I've since been thinking Stephan has to try some of these options otherwise he'll never know how they work. Can we play without Burrell chasing everything up front? Clearly not, but we have to rest him sometimes. Can we rely on Esquerdinha at LB? Not yet. Can Morrison cover in defence and if not why is he in the squad? Well I didn't think he was one of the main problems tonight or at least no more than you might expect from someone who hasn't played for months. Can Sam play as a No 10 or off the striker? He'll always try, but no. Etc, etc. I thought Koki could have played the Burrell role, but he hasn't been at his best recently. Poku showed flashes but needs more time to develop. One thing that Stephan seems absolutely wedded to is the 2 man midfield. We have options there (Hayden, Field, Morgan and maybe others) and when we need to stretch our resources over 4 games in 10 days shouldn't we try this? No reason to panic but disappointing when we can do so much better. |

"cleverly disguised as a responsible football club". Like it! But when the disguise comes off... Are we just the same old battered Ford Cortina owned and run by charlatans or that sleek new Kia EV purring towards the playoffs? Answers in May please. |
 | Forum Reply | Chair at 11:38 24 Dec 2025
Chair carried this club for 2 or 3 years and works hard all over the pitch and in training according to Madsen. I think we would have been relegated without him. I wonder if his recent injury problems stem from some of that workload. Still one of the first names on the team sheet for me, as recent performances have shown, but it's good to have choices. |
