The last time we reached the final of this competition was when we played Leicester schoolboys in 1965, and shared the trophy with them. A great achievement by the young Swans, as Leicester had a young Peter Shilton keeping goal for them.
Although the City has only met with limited success in the competition since then, we do have a proud history in the competition. Swansea won the shield twice in the 1930s and we were the first team to do the 'double', capturing both the Welsh and English shields in 1949-50, with a youthful Mel Charles playing at the heart of defence in the final against Manchester Schoolboys.
As well as for the boys and their families, it should also be a big day for the City, and it is hoped that a crowd of around 17,000 should turn up for the match. Tickets are extremely reasonable at £4 for adults and £1 for concessions. Tickets will be available on the day of the match, but in order to avoid massive queues, you are advised to buy the tickets beforehand.
Following a bye in the opening round, the Schoolboys won away at both Gloucester and Poole in rounds 2 and 3, and scoring 8 goals before winning a Welsh derby against Newport 2-1 after extra time. In the fifth round, we won 3-1 away at Milton Keynes, and then beat Southampton 3-0 in Swansea after drawing the first game 2-2 away. In the semi final, they overcame Cambridge 4-3 after extra time. With 4 of the rounds being played away, with plenty of time spent travelling, it hasn't been an easy route to the final.
So any of you reading this, turn up in your thousands to watch another chapter in the history of football in the City and hopefully see the Swans stars of the future lift the cup!
