Virgil Van Dijk Gives First Indication That His Future Lies At Saints Monday, 3rd Jul 2017 13:50 by Arron Sanders Virgil Van Dijk has appeared to confirm his St Mary's stay for the coming season, Arron Sanders reveals what seems to be VVW's first actual comment on the situation.
According to the twitter account of the reputable football associate Murray Groves Virgil Van Dijk has given an indication that he will still be at Southampton Football Club next season.
The Dutch defender when asked by a jounalist if he was staying with Saints this summer, answered with "a smile and a single nod."
Appearing to confirm the words of Vice Chairman Les Reed stand true, Van Dijk is currently the first team captain provides the club and fans with massive boost by confirming his immediate future to Saints.
There were rumours circling from Liverpool sources that Van Dijk could hand in a transfer request this week, however the latest instalment in the saga appears to shoot those down.
With some sort of clarity from the player himself now made, the fans can look ahead to who maybe partnering the Dutchman this season.
Could it be Either of Jack Stephens or Maya Yoshida given their impressive showings at the back end of last season? or will the club dip into the transfer market for a new starting centre back?
Are you happy with Virgil Van Dijk staying on Saints fans? and who do you think will partner him in the centre of defence this season?

As I’ve said, I think the signing of Bednarek signals that Yoshida/Stephens will partner with van Dijk. Yoshida only has a year left on his contract which is interesting, it’s unclear how happy either he or Stephens would be to play second fiddle. Bednarek is clearly one for the future but signing another central defender would put someone else in his way. The only rationale for signing another CB would be getting ready for VVD’s departure. If, as is suggested, we hang onto him for another year, then I imagine that the new manager will want to assess the strength of his current options before making any decisions on additional signings. Yoshida and Stephens both stepped up and improved as the season went on last season. Alongside VVD, I would back either of them to shine.

Maybe we are planning to go with 3 at the back, playing a 352 formation...

I personally think Yoshi is currently better than Stephens and should partner VVD next season. If it wasn't for him and the support he gave Stephens then I genuinely think we would have had a relegation scrap last season. If they opt for Stephens over him then I think he'll leave sadly. I definitely think he has enough quality to play for any EPL team outside the Top 10.

No matter who we sign this summer, his staying has to be the best news we will get.

A smile and a nod.. Hardly an enthusiastic pledge of allegiance, not that I blame him, he's ambitious Southampton are not. Anyway I got VVD to stay @10/1 :D

I've logged in for the sole purpose of disagreeing (and disagreeing bigly as Mr Trump would say) with the last contributor. Both the players mentioned in this article improved massively last season and Yoshida in particular was excellent in defence by the end. He was also a key player in the cup final. I just can't understand the attitude of some supporters towards him.

Couldn't agree more Cons. Expertly tutored by our previous manager but I doubt anyone will agree .
