I caught the last few minutes on 5 live this evening of an interview with someone (cant remember his name) who was on trial at Dale after being on trial at Crewe. He said Vic Halom was the manager but didnt name the coach who he said had, along with several players, verbally ridiculed and threatened him as it was common knowledge he had been a victim of Bennells at Crewe. It was so bad he just left the club and turned his back on football for good. Can anyone remember who our was coach back then? The whole Bennell thing makes me sick. listening to him go on about how he groomed kids in the recorded police interviews was enough for me. Unfortunately, there seems to have been a widespread attitude in football that it was OK to verbally abuse kids and indeed worse
I think that the introduction of criminal vetting for people working with kids has solved some of this problem and I have to say, my limited contact with the coaches at the Dale academy have always left me with an excellent impression of their professionalism.
All this is a far cry from what a mates son was presented with when he went for a trial a Portsmouth. He was asked what position he played and on replying "midfield" was subjected to a barrage of abuse from a so-called youth coach and then sent to play on the wing. Needless to say he never went back, fortunately he got a much better response at Ajax when he was invited there for trials! |  | | |

It was always alleged that Jock stein up at Celtic also knew about the abuse that was going on at the Celtic boys club. Its a sad part of life that these animals will always attach themselves to organisations that cater to children and children's development. These disgusting, vile people should be chemically castrated and imprisoned. If Bennell gets anything less than life imprisonment, it will be an injustice.
I think that the press will inevitably turn their attention towards Dario Gradi and that they will pursue him relentlessly.
What cannot be denied is that Crewe Alexandra have many questions to answer about this period of their history. It is clear that their directors were aware of the allegations being made about Bennell, yet seemingly failed to act.

I watched a programme a while ago on channel four and it was basically about a guy who admitted to having sexual attractions to kids and that he wanted treatment for other guys like himself.
We are at a stage where things like homosexuality and trans people are no longer categorized as mentally ill so maybe pedophiles will go down the route of demanding treatment or accomadations as part of their civil rights (not that Im comparing what gay adults do and what pedophiles do) I know there are government programmes for them in Germany and some of the Scandinavian nations.
Personally I think a bullet would be cheaper and would cut the rate of reoffending one hundred percent. | | | |

He interviews dozens of people inside the game (directors, administrators players at all levels, physios, kitmen) and one them was Dario Gradi.
Bearing in this mind that this was published in 1995, Gradi describes how he had to completely change the emphasis at Crewe from signing journeymen to one of youth development and says he made an inspired piece of recruitment in making Barry Bennell a key member of his backroom staff. At the time Bennell was seen as one of the top junior coaches in the country.
MInd you, I also found it amusing when Gradi wrote that he also had to sort out the internal dressing room politics when he first arrivedinvolving a group of cynical old pros.
