Poll: Greatest Ever Dale Game

I wonder if he was under the impression that Raff handled the ball. Raff seemed to be indicating to him that he made contact with his head.

I cannot see under what other circumstances the linesman's input would overturn the ref's decision.

Here's Paul Hurst's view and he's obviously miffed that a ref has changed his mind.

How were they an ugly team?

Fair question TVOs - guess it's about why you watch football. For me it's about passing, dribbling and attacking; Shrewsbury were a 'big' team, powerful & clinical in scoring, then parked the bus and defended with 'robust' challenges, moans to the referee, time-wasting and (bar their centre half) life threatening injuries which disappeared once we were ahead. However much Hill can be frustrating, his teams play football the way I want to watch. Equally, as someone else posted, this season's top teams have been decidedly ordinary and often all that separates us from mid-table has been run of the ball.

I watch football to see passing, dribbling and attacking, and in that regard, Shrewsbury were one of the best exponents of those skills we've seen this season, bar Spurs

I like watching football like that too, Tony, but can't agree on what you've said about Shrewsbury.

Still, everyone sees things differently.

Absolutely incredible finish! The shift between absolute devastation when that penalty was given (seriously, I felt sick) and the sheer euphoria of Henderson’s goal, brilliant! It was never a penalty anyway which made that finish all the sweeter.

In the first half Shrewsbury were streets ahead of us, and I thought they looked better than both Wigan and Blackburn. I hope they go on to win the rest of their games now and go up automatically. Our second half performance was absolutely brilliant though and we were worthy winners.

Well done to Hill, he saw Nthle was having a shocker at the back (although why play him in the first place) and so he acted to change that, changing formation in the process. That formation suited Camps a lot more and that’s the best he’s looked in ages. The same goes for Inman. Calvin was brilliant throughout, his hold-up play is second to none and he helps this team so much. Also a note for Davies, he’s now scored 3 of my favourite goals this season (along with Donny at home and Spurs at home).

Goals in the 45+12th minute and 90+6th minute don’t come along every day. Crazy game. So much passion out there today.

After going ahead Shrews were boring and ugly. I thought Nthle had a reasonable 40 mins but Hill saw Shrews were putting 10 behind the ball with only 1 up so 3 CBs weren't needed and our midfield 2 needed strengthening - so flat back 4, Rathbone holding, Camps & Hendo off the front 3 and the rest is joyous just deserts for the Dale (for once)

A lot of our defending was robust today (not a bad thing!), we moaned to the ref about the pen (rightly it seems!) and Lillis again wasted time once we had taken the lead. We are little different to most teams in those tactics, though we do look to play football more often than not. Today though, we can't even really say that was our preferred as even in the second half we were far more direct than normal, it's just that it looks better when people get up and around Calvin.

Wouldn't say Shrewsbury were ugly but like Wigan a few weeks ago they obviously prioritise defense ahead of attack. They took the lead were happy to sit back and try to play out the 1 nil. After our equaliser they looked fairly clueless. Can't think of any team I've seen this season that play with any kind of attacking style and intent. Blackburn were miles better than us but even they were fairly dull overall.

I think it's more than the run of the ball that separates us from mid-table, especially after 39 games.

They weren’t big and ugly, Lillis gave their striker a really long cuddle in the second half, in one of those moments where you go...what is the ruling there?

In the main, he talks a lot of sense there and is very complimentary about Dale. People should note his comments about surrounding officials because, whether it was a bad decision or not, that's exactly what we did and some were imploring him to talk to his assistant. That it assisted us or if it ensured the correct outcome isn't the point, it's that we, like a lot of sides, will do as much as we can to win games.

We need to remember this next time we are moaning about other sides wasting time and getting on to refs*. We aren't angels, it's just that some are worse and more obvious. Wimbledon's goalkeeper the other week certainly wasn't.

*apart from Dawson. It's open season on him on Tuesday as trying to ref games is something he's always tried to do.

If it’s anything like today, Dawson will be sat in the away end. The amount of Dale games he’s been at this year, he could be a season ticket holder.

But he was (unintentionally) obstructing from any sort of distribution from Lillis. Not something I think any of us will see again!

Awful decision by the ref.

He couldn't wait to give it and then, when the lino intervened, he had to admit he was wrong.

I was in the Sandy but it looked soft from a pitch length away.

We might still go down but for me that last 9 minutes kiiled the Shrews season.

They play at Wembley next week and by then Wigan and Blackburn will occupy the top 2 places. Then it's the third place and being the best team in the playoffs. The statistics indicate that doesn't go well.

I did think the togetherness on the pitch for the goal celebrations was immense.

To put it mildly, their player (Nolan?) went down very easily:

But, rather than 'lose face', a lot of refs would have stuck to their decision.
