Shifting Hatred 12:53 - Jan 9 with 5484 viewsBlueMessiah

I spent the early years (80s) of my Dale supporting career hating Stockport and the BIFFOs then a bit later Burnley in the late 80s/early 90s. Stockport and Burnley then both drifted in different directions to be replaced by the Buckets in my prime hatee list, though I still dislike both.

I never gave a shit about Bolton even when they joined us in Division 4 for a brief spell. I can now safely say I hate Bolton more than any other club. It's obviously impossible to hate the Buckets now and I'll always hate the BIFFOs but Bolton's last 6 months has really done it for me. The self-entitlement that permeates throughout the club, the cheating, the way they've been let off the hook by the incompetent EFL, the Billy big bollocks attitude (even though the tin-pottery at their away turnstiles earlier this season was hilarious) and the whole infuriating Radio Bolton farce just makes me detest them like no other. Nothing to do with locality or the fact that one of our ex-managers is at the helm (although his contradictory bollocks - which he has always had a penchant for - clearly doesn't help).

I also hate Salford City more than the BIFFOs now, but that needs no explanation. I have always hated Birmingham City but have no idea why.

Anyone else finding their hatreds shifting?

Probably mellowing as I age but I don't think I hate any clubs or their fans.

I dislike the way some fans of some clubs behave when we play them. And I dislike the way some clubs are run. But I can't tar the whole fanbase of a club with the same brush.

It just happens that some local clubs have been run immorally (in my view) and that has disadvantaged us directly. Stockport, Bury and Bolton spring to mind. Notts County not so local but they were obviously run badly and you could argue that cost us.

Local derbies always bring in big away crowds and the knobhead daytripper element of clubs.

But for the most part following Dale home and away I've realised that most match-going lower league fans are cut from the same cloth. I actually enjoy having a pint and a chat with opposition fans.

Probably my biggest hatred in football is armchair fans. Folk who "support" a team from miles away and have no connection and never actually watch them live. The sort of people who sneer when you mention you support a league 1 side and then ask "but who do you really support?".

Never really hated any of our rivals tbh.

Oldham fans are a special kind of bellend though I've always thought since we've started playing them again.

Cannot really say i hate any club tbh but what does really peeve me off is when the clubs break the rules and then some.
And get a slap for doing so.

Then they peeve me off even more when they go n do it all again a few seasons later and they still dont get the punishment that they deserve......

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

I agree Bolton are starting to annoy me, Oldham used to come over billy big ones, but a spell in league two has made them irrelevant. Bury fans are no more. Any team managed by Ferguson deserves hate

My hate tends to gravitate not to the club but the manager. I had no problem with Gillingham until this season.

Always hated Liverpool, City and Bury.

Started working in Royton years ago and very quickly developed a strong disliking for Oldham based on their nostalgic fanbase still thinking they had a divine right to be listed among the top clubs in the country because they were in the Premier League for a couple of seasons and got to the FA Cup semi final.

I later moved to Shaw and that strong disliking turned to hatred. Horrible club.

I've now developed a very strong disliking of both Bolton and Accrington. Bolton because of the woe is me Radio Matey rubbish and Accy because of the two morons in charge there and there wish to emulate everything about Liverpool.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Hatred is such a strong word that i only don't hate any club or their supporters but then I don't hate any individual person either, maybe it's because I've been going to church since a baby
Forest have been my biggest football rivals since I was 16 but I've always tried to get on with their fans even when they repeat the glory days of Clough and the European Cup for the thousandth time and I've definitely never wanted to attack an opposing fan at a match but I must admit that I did once get the urge to run onto the pitch to have it out with a player but he was a Notts player who had been useless over the season but common sense prevailed
Where do Notts stand now with Dale fans, when I first started posting on here five or six years ago I got loads of flack for past misdemeanors by Notts but it rarely gets mentioned now and if it does then it's tongue in cheek banter, how who you feel if history had been different and we was in the Championship?

Don't hate anyone. I have a fierce dislike of Man Utd inherited from my family.

Other than that, it's fans that usually grind my gears. As such, I'm not keen on Hull, Leeds or Bury. I also didn't like Spurs due to one never-go kn**head at work. Although my view on them softened after we played them.

Also, I don't like Notts County for pretty obvious reasons. Plus, there was a 'Pie' I knew at the time who was lapping it up so much he looked like a one-armed bandit about to orgasm. With every new unaffordable signing, his eyes would roll back in his head and he'd jiggle about. That's one payout I didn't want.

To outweigh the negativity, can I also add that my opinion of Charlton and their fans rose immeasurably after the Joey T game?

Could never be bothered putting in the energy for actual hatred but have always disliked Utd.
Back in the day rivals were Crewe and Halifax but no real antipathy towards either apart from one night being chased from Crewe back to where our coach was parked.
Honourable mentions in no particular order... Luton, Hull Blackpool.

YOU do not have the right to give someone else permission to tell me what I can and can't do.

Folks who show so much hate, have a mental problem.
That is probably why the Football League is promoting a one minute silence prior to matches starting. Think about it. What does so much hatred achieve?

I don’t think he means actual hatred. Just football hatred. And the minutes silence before the Newcastle game was weird.

Despite the fact that we almost went to the wall because of Munto and signing a low life like Lee Hughes there are some Notts fans who rate THAT season as the best in living memory, they are idiots, when I went to the last game of season last May and we got relegated at Swindon the majority of the crowd clapped off the players.... Clapped them off ffs!! They are probably the same fans that rate the 2009/10 season as a good one,I sometimes wonder what's the matter with some people

I can’t say these days I hate any club or individual but in the past certainly clubs and individuals (sometimes enough to hate the whole club) but now I just dislike a fair few.

I hated Preston, John beck, tony Ellis, Burnley, John Francis, founder members so cant be relegated, I hated Scarborough as it was a dump full of scrotes, I never liked Barnet or Barry fry, United obviously is a given, I hated dean smith for his stupid goal celebrations when he scored another header against us for Hereford/Walsall, Crewe because of Elton welsby and constant arse licking they got in the 90’s.

These days I dislike franchise for obvious reasons, have always disliked Oxford since kassam stadium days, dickhead fans to match manager, never liked Doncaster since they stoned the coach, and United I will always hate.

I think chalky has done a fair bit to reduce the antagonism between us and county, to his credit, will always hate lee Hughes but county are just another club these days to me.

Anyway - fook off chalky 👍

Good general post this overall & a distraction from squabbles on others 😀

Grew up a UTD fan from my Grandad (god rest his sole, still miss him & 34 years since he passed)

So obviously through school & into early life disliked City..& Leeds/Liverpool being a red but that has faded now & don’t dislike any Prem team now & don’t have Sky or BT sports as no interest in who wins or loses.

As for hating clubs, anyone who knows me knows my opinion of a local team, can’t think now what they were called but Buckets springs to mind 😡😡

My ex boss who is a great bloke & keep in touch with is a Villa fan so keep an eye on them, hoping they win / lose for some banter, one of my best mates is a Burnley fan so rip him terribly, same with Craig Dawson’s dad, was West Brom, now Watford.. took great pride earlier in the season asking him if it was true UB40 we’re playing at the next game in the half time interval.. Why??? because your none in 10 😀😀😀😂. Similar used to keep tabs on Macclesfield as worked in Stockport & a few of the lads supported them as well.

I tend to judge teams on how we’re treated at their grounds, for only one of many examples over the years, found Exeter a pleasant experience.

As regards NCFC, it’s on record somewhere in the archives, they are my second team (must have been on Taddy that night & hissed 😀😀😀) Chalky is a good lad so one of the scores I keep tabs on for banter.

Ps, season of goodwill is over like your chances of promotion back to the EFL so fook off 😀😀

Interesting discussion.

Similar to others, I wouldn’t say I ‘hate’ any club, and that’s simply because football in general doesn’t mean enough to me in life for it to engender hatred.

However! The club I dislike most at present has to be Bolton. The way they still act like they’re relevant despite being the joke club of the whole Football League is irksome. And the way they’ve acted over the past year or so has made me lose any respect for them, to the point where I barely recognise them as a football club anymore rather than a turd-like stain on the morality of the EFL.

Bury I never really disliked. I genuinely enjoyed our rivalry and the fact they were a club basically identical to us in size made me see them almost as a compatriot. Oldham in general are a bellend of a club, their fans are just bizarre, but a spell facing the Conference seems to be stunning them into silence.

I really can’t stand Darren Ferguson, Gavin McCann and Joey Barton for the way they make their teams ‘play’. Horrible. And then there are the clubs I dislike simply because their fans are perennial bellends - Preston and Port Vale come to mind.

Although Bournemouth did come 2nd ( due to us losing with the last kick of the game at Barnet when they overtook us ) - after the title decider at Notts when Hughes scored the only goal the season was over for Dale - those last 3 games felt like we were just going through the motions and the players just wanted to be on holiday. It should have been our title and the clubs finest moment.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Notts County’s overspending definitely meant they built a squad to go up that season they otherwise wouldn’t have. That meant one extra promotion challenger in the mix. I don’t think Dale finishing 3rd not 2nd or 1st can be put down to solely Notts and Munto though. Our lead was something silly like 14 points at one stage. We should never have been caught. Can only really blame players and management for that.

That game down at Meadow Lane was a depressing event though. I remember it well. Bloody loads of us there and that murdering fecker dancing in front of us after he scored. Ugh.
