Goals conceded in last 5 minutes and how many points have we lost in the process?

Proper kick in the nuts....again from a winning position.

We can't defend a lead.

We must have conceded more goals and dropped more points in the last ten minutes of games this season that we have won points.
Certainly feels like it to me, I always expect us to concede in the last 10 minutes of a game and it feels like we very rarely disappoint.

Poll: Now the club has refused to move on sesaon ticket prices what will you now do?

Don't make Shun angry. You wouldn't like it when he's angry. He's done a doctorate on how profligate we are in the last 10 mins of games.

We do disappoint though....but I know what you mean it's almost habitual with our lot.

Are we unable to concentrate for the last quarter of a match?.

The BBC accused us of "faffing about" on Tuesday and added "you die by the sword" refering to our inept defence......here we go again. Same old same old.

It's so infuriating.

Ha, that’s because it genuinely infuriates me! I’d rather lose by 3 goals than by 1 goal in the last minute.

We’ve conceded more goals in the last 10 minutes of games than anyone else in England over the past 3 seasons, I’m absolutely sure of it (but too fed up of it to actually to do the research).

It’s ironic really..in Hillys halcyon days we used to be the team scoring at the death to get a draw or win...

Except we didn't concede because we were "faffing about"; we conceded because we initially lost the ball when launching an attack and then Luke made a rash, inexperienced challenge.

Spot on. If it had mcshane covering the player he'd have defended the situation differently.

tragic part of it was he had him going away from goal.... the hard part, and then lunged in when it wasnt needed.

As you say, inexperience, but I do worry about leaving the kids in these situations when crucial points are at stake. Just wonder if we should be looking to give the lad a break in situations like yesterday occasionally and have more experienced blokes protecting the points.

Well yes, but has already been alluded to, he's having to play more games than might otherwise be the case due to injuries to the likes of McLaughlin, McNulty and McShane.

The annoying thing is that for most of the game, RND had played quite cautiously and tended to hold back in his attacks and return the ball to someone in midfield or behind him.

On one of the occasions he showed more attacking intent, he lost the ball (possibly due to a bad bobble), Wycombe then switched it to the other side and the penalty occurred.

OK but both McNulty and Done were on the bench and might have provided that experience in the last 5 -10 minutes.

They might have, but everything was fine until the last five seconds of the four allotted minutes and it's easy to be wise after the event.

No, not being wise after the event, about learning from experience sosomething that might be considered for the future.

There was no need to make a substitution of that position. McNulty could have come on and made exactly the same challenge, as he has done before.

There was literally five seconds left and Luke had been superb all game.

Or he could have come on and ushered the bloke out of the box and we would be one point better off, neither of us will ever know.

Thats what makes the game, and opinions about it, so interesting.

But the opinion of someone who watched the entire game surely carries more weight, as everything has much better context?

True, but what I do know, having been there, is that there was no need at all to substitute Matheson for any aspect of his or the team's performance.

I havent said anyones performance warranted a change....just a suggestion that a tactical substitution might be worth considering if we find ourselves in the same situation again.

But we didn't know we would find ourselves in a situation where, with FIVE SECONDS left, Matheson would make a poor choice of challenge.

I watched the game, albeit via iFollow, and there was no need, based on the play up until that point, to make a defensive substitution. Anybody could've made the mistake Luke did and, let's remember, Luke only made his mistake because another our players made one further up the field.

Didn't see the game, but Luke has the best rating on the Dale fan's Player Ratings for this game by some distance.

of course not... the point is as we approach the last 5 mins or so with points on the line perhaps consider a tactical sub to bring on experience and give the young lad a well deserved break and avoid exposing him to these risks.

it might be a way of securing the point or points his and the rest of the teams performance deserved.

I believe we were looking for three points. With that in mind, Luke offers a massive plus on the attacking front, as demonstrated versus Newcastle and others.

Or we could have substituted one of the forward players to eat up a few more seconds.

Either way, the penalty came about because we were trying to win the game and the ball was lost about 60 yards and 20 seconds away from where the penalty was conceded.#

What could and should have been done is all very well with the benefit of hindsight.
