A couple of things that others had questioned that I heard answers to this week.
Influenza, which has many types, does kill +250,000 every year - think a recent year totaled abt. 700,000 but think that the majority die because it then leads to things like pneumonia.
And, yes, the flu jab works but only on the flu-viruses that the WHO has estimated to be more prevalent from research for a forthcoming season - perhaps combining 3 different types. So, as someone said, they'd had the jab but probably succumbed to one of the many other flu-type viruses which weren't chosen to be inoculated against.

I'm definitely in the first camp. Watching the close-ups of players making a quick hand-slap whilst avoiding eye contact has been a lowlight of many a highlights programme, and a waste of everyone's time

Oh both. I'd love for them to get rid of that rubbish. Much better when players just ran out and took their place on the pitch. At least they don't do the post match hand shakes that the women's game has. Stopping it because of Coronavirus is a nonsense. What about players spitting (nowhere near as popular as it used to be here) and it all being a contact sport. I imagine the EFL are doing a report on it now and will say "it's up to the clubs" or something. | | | |

The difference? Those handshakes at the end are genuine, a reflection of a hard-fought sporting contest

I wasn't questioning the gravitas between shaking hands at the end of the game or the pointless perfunctory ones beforehand.
It just seems pointless from stopping them shaking hands at the beginning of the game, to supposedly aid in curtailing the spread of disease, if everybody is shaking hands and hugging at the end. | | | |

Just been stung by an airline because of the Coronavirus. My daughter and her boyfriend are meeting me in Sardinia For Easter and have to take a connecting flight. It cost about 550 GBP. Just 1 of the 4 sections has been cancelled and the options are
1. Get a refund on that 1 leg of just 70 GBP and then the whole trip will be cancelled and you lose the other 480GBP
2. Rebook an earlier flight for 110 GBP. However if that is subsequently cancelled then you will have to pay another increased fare for another change, or only get another 15% of your total fare back.
On the latter I had assumed they had to reschedule you without charge if they cancel a flight |  | | |

Ive had some horrendousexperiences with airlines and travel insurance companies in the last few years that have left me 000s out of pocket. I am due to fly to washington on March 16th . Id prefer not to go at the moment butif I cancel I wont get a penny back.
Just about every travel insurance policy I have looked at has small printexclusion clauses relating to ‘operational problems of airlines’ and of course just about anything can be placed in that ragbag category.

We can fly business on long haul and it was booked through American so I'm hoping the tickets will be transferrable when the rearranged dates are released (under the circs), but ……. | |

Yes very dodgy times at the minute,the Mrs actually works in travel and we previously booked to go away in the summer holiday for 2 weeks, luckily theres minimal deposit so far and free cancellation for quite a while so we'll see how it all plays out these next few weeks I think.

I am flying air canada so I can clear US immigration at Toronto instead of washington...but only premium economy sadly.

Too many people say they have flu when it's a bad cold. Real flu is different, I have only ever had it once and like you said, I literally couldn't get out of bed and had to crawl to the bathroom. My joints ached like mad and I had a fever, dizziness and was confined to bed for a few days. |  | | |
