Hornets on Sunday 19:31 - Feb 24 with 256183 viewsEllDale

They’re tweeting that their “matchday operations” are being restricted for the home game against Barrow on Sunday for reasons that they don’t want to divulge at the moment.
The bottom line is that the crowd capacity is limited to 920 and there will be no cash admissions on the day.
Wonder what that’s all about?

Far more sporting history at the Athletic grounds than at spotland, but I suspect you know that.

Wouldn't have the foggiest; I'm only interested in Dale, football and cricket.

OK so we can categorise your comment on a thread about local rugby league as uninformed.

Cup finals, internationals, elite level rugby league, other world championship sports all played at Athletic grounds as well as the largest challenge cup final attendence prior to it being moved to Wembley.

And the reasons to go to spotland have been…..third and (mostly) fourth tier football.

Its a shame we cannot celebrate all our towns (and particularly our two professional sports teams) history and avoid taking cheap shots. And lets not forget that part of the morrisons pot of gold was invested in Spotland.

It wasn't an uninformed opinion. It wasn't actually any opinion.

It was meant to be a bit of humour in these dark times, which you've taken far too seriously, in response to (I think) D_Alien's quip about Morrison's.

I support Rochdale AFC and Littleborough CC. Why do I need to have an affiliation with a team from another sport that I can't be doing with and in which I have ZERO interest, especially one which has caused Dale untold hassles and expense in the last 30-odd years, just because they are from the same town?

Genuine question, though. How come those who follow both Dale and Hornets all seem to side with the egg-chasers?

And what about those who call Dale "The AFC"? Are they celebrating another team from the town, or taking a cheap shot of their own?

“theres more reasons to go there now than there ever was “. was your post.

I dont side with either. - i just dont like cheap shorts being taken …. I own no shares in Hornets so in terms of money and mouths my support of Dale is quite clear.

Lets hope we see two home wins at Spotland over the next three days and that the current unfortunate situation regarding capacity constraints for Hornets games is resolved soon to both clubs satisfaction.

"More reasons to shop at Morrison's" was part of the advertising jargon used by Morrison's back in the day.

Here is a thought......Maybe the RL club are up to speed on all payments and agreements and aren't doing anything different to what they have for the past 6/7 years under the current contractual arrangements ?

Maybe our current administration are getting desperate? Maybe they are realising football is an expensive business and a place in a football boardroom comes at a price? Maybe just maybe the RL club has done nothing wrong and we are trying to screw a customer and community partner as we are skint and desperate? Now i do not know but just imagine???......

All i would say in terms of direction of travel the RL club seems to be doing alright in difficult circumstances and good luck to them.

But and its a but as i am surmising but if we are going to preach about being a true fans / community club and wish to be a pillar of the community then maybe we should make sure we try and endear ourselves to that very same community and council and treat people how we would wish to be treated?

The sort of linguistic stylings and narcissistic tenor (linguistic) a certain Roger used to Dale fans. "We" ? My arse. "Now i do not know but just imagine" "But and its a but as i am surmising" - Fantasy - you don't even know anything but proffer BS. Same as previous posts under your user name. All utter unsubstantiated rubbish posts that were outed as such.

Consequently, your entire argument implausible.

We know how someone used to preach about being a true lifelong fan, and we know what he did in office. EGM 1st June 2021 sorted that particular issue out. The shareholders made their decision.

I think your club is probably doing what it has done over the past 6/7 years. My argument is whether the contracts were well written and survive the test of time. Sometimes a review is needed as services are used in an unintended way and costs need to be covered. The football club is solvent, has assets and reserves. But last year was hard work and a forensic look at costs was needed following a period of poor management. If the football club struggle to survive, then there is no Hornets at Spotland either.

I wish both clubs well and hope you get as much enjoyment out of Hornets as I hope to continue to get out of football. It would be a sad day for the town if either went under.

The facts are you just don't know, do you ? Not many know the real facts. It's not in the interest of the Dale or Hornets for a negative situation to be occurring. Dale would benefit from the best possible income generation from all events happening at Spotland Crown Oil Arena. That means making the right choices as far as bar prices etc. Too high and they won't sell enough, too low and they won't make enough money, same as any retail establishment. While Hornets are tenants, it's in the interests of Dale for them to do well, to maximise match day income.

https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/12673168/fili

I see that Hornets filed their accounts through to March 2021. They have opted to file filletd accounts and show the balance sheet. The club has net assets of £177,000 and a recent director has written off an historic loan of £143,000. WIthout that the club would have had a tiny balance sheet. Because they have issued filleted accounts only there is no P&L details, and because its status has changed, there is no prior year comparison.

I see that the long standing supporter (benefactor) Paul Ormerod has resigned too.

Is that what you wre expecting

There was a rumour that that Andy Mazey bloke was involved in Martin Halsall's failed 'investment' bid with us, and would probably have a position of authority across rugby and football if successful.

Makes you wonder if he resents the fact he isn't 'Mr Rochdale' after it fell through, and he didn't get the 'glory' associated with it.

Comments such as 'dirty linen' on social media reek of being unprofessional whilst trying to appear outwardly professional, and if that is how he operates in front of the world you can only imagine how he is in private.

I’ve never met the bloke personally but understand from his Tweets that he’s a big Man U fan.
In rugby terms I believe that he was once on the board at Leigh Centurions and he was definitely chairman of Swinton before falling out big style with their fan base over proposals to rebrand the club as “Manchester Lions”.

The internet doesn't forget:

This was Martin Samuel's piece in the Daily Mail in September 2019 about why Swinton was exited following the scandal of a name change - there were plans to rebrand them from Swinton Lions to Manchester Lions.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-7470773/MARTIN-SAMUEL-Scand

Perhaps in time it will become the 'Manchester Hornets'? This articulates the belief that little club names don't bring in sponsorship but that a Manchester RFL franchise would be much more attractive.

Perhaps he switched because Swinton were a nomadic club having had about 7 different venues for home games, since leaving Station Road, the only way he thought Swinton could move forward was by changing their name, quite rightly the fans rebelled, though I can understand to some degree his reasons for wanting the change..ie bigger profile bigger sponsorship, he clearly saw Hornets as being well established at Spotland......but for how long?

Isn't it a bit wider than that hammerdale? By my reckoning Mazey's switched teams 4 times in 9 years from 2013 leaving on place and then near immediately turning up somewhere else.

Then looking at the November 2021 Hornets accounts someone posted earlier net assets are £177k, comprising £81k of goodwill, £13k of tangible assets and £84k of working capital.

Rochdale Hornets didn't have to pay £143k to a former directors and was sitting on this season's season ticket money at this point.

Wouldn’t know the guy if I fell over him but people in the town are saying nothing but positive things about the current board and progress Hornets are making since a disastrous 2019 under "fan ownership".

Ask Hornets fans in the town about do gooders running clubs and fans in boardrooms. Sports clubs need experienced operators and investment if they have any level of ambition in any sport at any level in my humble opinion.

One thing that is for sure they don’t seem to be going down the pan as quickly as we are under our current chairman and board and they ain’t out using begging bowls and scrimping and borrowing.

A lot of deflection since my last post here but I'm told by some very reliable sources in the town that the RL club are doing nothing wrong at all and we are out of order in the way we dealing with them. I believe this to be true as senior people in the council are monitoring it.

Presumably there will be links to information to back up opinions posted?

Especially when it’s mentioning officials at the council. Is this minuted somewhere for example?

Edit: RAFC have had the most successful period in the club’s history at the same time as the game itself has been flooded with ridiculous money at all levels. That was without outside investment. Last season we were relegated with a squad that was good enough to stay up and compete in League One. It is not necessary to have outside investment to achieve in football and it is utter nonsense to suggest otherwise.

Edit 2: “at any level”. The newly formed Bury AFC have just won their league. A 100% fan owned club.
“at any level”
