Unfortunately D.A in those moments when a clear head should prevail the PTSD kicks in, fight or flight is a choice but I don't do flight so all hell breaks out...It's strange because for many years I followed Hornets as well as dale and travelled all over the place supporting them...It's well documented even on here in one guise or another that the old guard and I did not see eye to eye after past naughtiness by the then board...I don't think anyone then connected to Hornets is still there now, even the lads n lasses I used to go with fell out of love with Hornets never to return, we were named Bandit supporters at the time for our opposition and for spilling the beans about their antics.....I hadn't seen or heard anything from anyone connected to Hornets for years until last weekend when I called into the San Remo cafe for a brew whilst waiting for Rocks Off vinyl store to open and sat there was the Son of a former director and one of the old guard...Never has a brew been finished so quickly and a seat vacated...Quite funny really...It seems like after a few years of settled RL at Spotland (Don't do COA) the dodgy times are back....Shame really..... |

Looking at LinkedIn Peter Smith is the man who’s on the board of Sale FC which is a separate rugby union club from Sale Sharks.
Swinton RLFC share their ground at Heywood Road at the moment and it looks as though he was on the board at Swinton at the same time as Andy Mazey and so would have backed the Manchester Lions debacle.

You obviously know more than me on that so fair enough.
Speaking simply from my point of view, all this bad blood could have been avoided if Mazey showed a bit more professionalism given his position at Hornets. Unfortunately for him though, some of us worked him out on his first post on here given what he’d said in person to people elsewhere. Interesting choice of name.
For a start it's geographically incorrect as Balderstone is definitely south of the town centre.
There used to be a team in the local league called East Ward in the 1980's but they were based at the old Con club of the same name in Newbold.
They later moved and renamed themselves Newhey.
Most of their old committee and players are no longer around so I can't see any connection. |

They have never had what any prfessional football club requires to train on. Given their financial situation there is little chance of one in the near future or ever. And we think that we have problems. I would have thought that trying to get rid of Hornets from Spotland would not help their financial problems
Of course the training facilities can be improved. Ask Bottomley how he fooked up at Hopwood Hall..
We train on the flattest, driest pitches in the Borough and the clubhouse has fine facilities for changing, showering and catering.
We also spent a good many seasons in a higher division training at the same facilities.

While I can't profess to know much about our finances, we have reduced our squad considerably, brought in several players who, from what I've seen so far, will improve its quality and, presumably, we have gained financially from Rotherham (Rathbone) and Wigan (Humphrys) being promoted, along with maybe further payments from Blackpool (Beesley) and Bolton (Morley). | |

I'm genuinely concerned over the last seven days that The Hornet might be cracking up and having some form of breakdown.
The Hornet is the only person I've seen in the last six months quote how supposedly bad our finances are since Andrew Curran, David Bottomley, Alexander Jarvis and then Matthew Southall were doing the same in 2021 as part of a failed hostile takeover aimed at destablising the club so that it could be asset stripped.
Remember this from August 2021:

Then you move onto the clash between football and rugby fixtures over a number of upcoming weekends in July and August.
Today, we have a home friendly against Port Vale and Hornets play tomorrow against the London franchise team.
People who are going up today and pay £10 to get in and had a few cheap beers in the Ratcliffe in the sunshine are very unlikely to go vs London tomorrow and pay £16 to do so.
So say we'll get a crowd of say 1,500 for a friendly vs Hornets will struggle to get anywhere near filling the available 920 spaces tomorrow and London won't bring any paying spectators. Say they get 400 tomorrow then Mazey and Co are doing well.
Next weekend the same pattern comes out, we play a home game vs Crewe - another bumper crowd and you'd expect say 3,000 Dale and Crewe fans combined for the first game of the season.
Hornets will be, at best, 1600 and their initiatives are giving a lot of those tickets away and even that will be a push given that it is school holidays and Sunday 3pm kickoffs are not the most convenient when people have other plans.
I noticed too, that Hornets have also moved one of their August games to a Sunday when we are playing Crawley on the Saturday and that pattern will be the same that weekend. A good home football crowd on the Saturday and then asking the paying Hornets punter to come against Wales Raiders on the Sunday afternoon. How many people will pay £16 to see Hornets play a scratch Welsh franchise?
Perhaps there is genuine worry on the Hornets side of the limited number of fans that will come on Sunday's when Dale have played at home on a Saturday.
The obsession of The Hornet is reaching the point of understanding of what the real agenda is here?
I think on such low crowds and with no RFL funding available that times are really hard. Costs are going up for everyone and Mazey and Co will be no exception. Clearly all things have been significantly tightened up post-Bottomley.
If (and it is an if) promotion to the Championship is not achieved either automatically or via the playoffs then Hornets have to survive through this winter before the game begins again next Spring. The RFL have committed to keeping League 1 next season as is:

In the meantime The Hornet continues to endear himself on a twice daily basis to 2,000 RAFC Season ticket holders in a way that David Bottomley, Matthew Southall and Alexander Jarvis did by peddling s*ite. Dale fans have this uncanny ability to see through people peddling s*ite.

I agree with the vast majority of that, however I know of at least two regular WMG stand regulars who are local Councillors, Sultan Ali, who brings children along with him and Sean O'Neill. Don't know if they are shareholders, but think both are ST holders. |  |

No sign of either on the shareholder list available from Companies House so must just be paying fans like anyone else, which is refreshing.
You'd hope that all local councillors in the town would get behind the club, especially at a time of an attempted hostile takeover.
The fact that there might be active councillors amongst the fanbase continues to deride The Hornet's view that "you wont endear yourself to senior councillors and politicians ".
The truth is that the club has been one of a number of good national adverts for our town over the last ten years with games against Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and six years in League One, employing over 100 local people and bringing visitors to Spotland that bring about £1m of economic value to the town per annum.
You wouldn't understand that though if you were an out-of-towner. | |
