Hornets on Sunday 19:31 - Feb 24 with 260774 viewsEllDale

They’re tweeting that their “matchday operations” are being restricted for the home game against Barrow on Sunday for reasons that they don’t want to divulge at the moment.
The bottom line is that the crowd capacity is limited to 920 and there will be no cash admissions on the day.
Wonder what that’s all about?

They won 30-26.

Rochdale Mayfield lost at Lock Lane 30-16.

Wonder how it feels to have undermined a local rugby league club that has been in existence since 1958?

Wonder how it feels to be a football club that have never even been recognised at National level. Not even a decent cup run. Forever in the bottom tier. Even that will end soon.

Can’t believe someone has had such a dummy spit over posting one of his tweets after he thinks blocking them stops them seeing them. Very good entertainment though.

Spent too much time in his “man cave” today methinks.

Year ?

About 60 after Hornets won the Challenge Cup.

More recently had decent runs ended by Premier league teams who don't enter until later rounds.

We had a decent run in league one, ruined by idiotic management that thankfully has been replaced by a professional team prepared to be accountable.

Poll: What is it to be then?

I would give up if I were you. Maybe don't throw stones when hornets past history is anything but glorious. The last time they achieved something was in 1989 with the promotion to Division One for a season. Your just making yourself look really silly. Oh and up the field !

Might be a function of the other results and what they mean for Hornets that's tipped someone over the edge.

Swinton Lions won. Now 2nd
Oldham won.
North Wales Crusaders playing the late kick-off - will go 2nd if they win.

Hornets must win tomorrow to hang onto the tails of 2nd and 3rd.

Slip up, just once, and they are going to be in the lower reaches of the playoffs and have to play those 2nd or 3rd placed teams.

Plus Swinton Lions will be doing everything to make sure Tattoo fails, given the attempt to rebrand them Manchester Lions was their equivalent of our hostile takeover.

Crusaders win in the last few minutes, makes every remaining Hornets game a must win.

Table:
1st Keighley - P14 - 28 points
2nd Crusaders P15 - 24 points
3rd Swinton P14 - 22 points
4th Hornets P13 - 20 points
5th Doncaster P14 - 20 points

Hornets remaining 7 games:
London (h)
Swinton (h)
Doncaster (a)
Cornwall (h)
Crusaders (a)
Wales (h)
Keighley (h)

So providing they are still playing at Spotland, they would attract bigger gates if they were promoted, potentially providing us revenue via the 2 bars being open.

If, and that’s a big if, Hornets get promoted, then their gates would certainly increase.
Two from Leigh, Wakefield or Featherstone will be in the Championship next season.
As will the likes of Bradford, Halifax and Widnes.
All of the above have relatively decent away followings.

And if hornets fail, they won't be.

Looking at the numerous alter-ego's of their "keyboard warrior" owner online, he is doing everything possible to destroy potential support for Hornets from RAFC fans, and Rochdalians in general with his hateful words.

Given the online abuse directed to everything about RAFC and all Dale fans from him/ his alter-ego's, we should wish Hornets dead. But we are better than that. We hope they get a proper owner instead of a useless online gobshite and prosper properly - something the current Hornets directors are utterly incapable of achieving. 4 clubs he's tried and failed at?

They have had two more recent promotions

One after an outstanding win against all the odds in Tolouse and the other after winning the play off final v Oldham at Leigh.

I don’t think we should lower ourselves to his level of understanding history.

Shows just how little you know about the sporting histories of clubs in Rochdale, or of the town itself. You have once again exposed who you are. What a horrible gobshite.

Having brought the topic up via the Hornets forum, The Hornet would not have a leg to stand on given his/her/their claims being made are that this is a matter of public interest, which it's obviously not. It's whinging.

There are two parts to the statutory defence of public interest under section 4 of the 2013 Act.

First, the publisher must show that the statement complained of was or formed part of a statement on a matter of public interest.

Secondly, the publisher must show that they reasonable believed that publishing the statement complained of was in the public interest.

The owner of the website, League Publications Limited must have considered some of it defamatory and therefore unlikely to be a matter of public interest which is why they removed it.

https://www.castrust.org/2020/05/cast-responds-to-southalls-threat-to-sue/

Worth reading how the Charlton fans dealt with Southall's attempts to gag them via the same threats.

The number of libel trials in the UK is very very low, given that anyone sues you for libel can be also countersued for making defamatory statements about you!

One would imagine sending veiled threats via PM puts one on shaky ground too.

I can never remember if it’s the misuse of communications act or the malicious communications act.

A moderator has removed the ground restrictions thread from their forum..

The thread entitled 'ground restrictions' has been removed from the forum in its entirety due to a number of posts within it being considered as potentially libellous.

A threat of legal action has been received by us as a consequence of this.

Please note the long-standing rule on this forum, as per the pinned thread (Oct 23rd, 2019) entitled 'New Rule: Off field issues / named individuals'

If you post a comment about a named individual relating to off field issues, whether critical or otherwise, you must add your own real name to the end of the post or it will be removed by a moderator, without exception.

Hardly an achievement when the level when prompted is just slightly higher than amateur level. We have been accused of nothing to consider as an achievement yet had two promotions ourselves in recent history. Lowering ourselves to their level is the only way of shutting them up sometimes

How much does anyone genuinely believe that Rochdale Hornets generate significant funds for the club on the bar for rugby league games?

It's a significantly flawed argument in my mind, but one that is trotted out repeatedly.

If I try to put some numbers to it:

This season they Hornets 10 League games at home.
Maximum attendance is 920.
Not all of that 920 will be able to buy alcohol (under 18) or may not choose to do so.
Assuming 400 people buy 1 pint.

=4,000 pints sold per season
@£5 per pint
£20,000 of revenues

Less:
The cost of the beer
Staffing costs
Electricity
Cleaning
Insurance
Wear and tear

There's a reason why 30 pubs a day close in the UK which is simply that its uneconomic to run.

Let's just say that selling 4,000 generated the club £10,000 net per year.

And given there is no way on earth that Hornets will consume 400 pints per home game so the real numbers would be less.

£10,000 a season max. Probably much less.
