They’re tweeting that their “matchday operations” are being restricted for the home game against Barrow on Sunday for reasons that they don’t want to divulge at the moment.
The bottom line is that the crowd capacity is limited to 920 and there will be no cash admissions on the day.
Wonder what that’s all about?

Hardly an achievement when the level when prompted is just slightly higher than amateur level. We have been accused of nothing to consider as an achievement yet had two promotions ourselves in recent history. Lowering ourselves to their level is the only way of shutting them up sometimes

Yes promotions from third tier to second tier…now remind me about our promotions?

We don’t need to engage in tit for tats on the respective honours boards…the current situation is about a lease, nothing else.

I have a horrible feeling of dejavu about this situation.
It reminds me of what happened at the Shay a few years ago.
That stadium is owned by the local authority which decided to review the tenancy agreements of both the football and rugby league clubs. They were both told that they needed to start paying rent for the areas used as the respective club shops and offices.
FC Halifax Town vacated their club shop (the site of which is still empty) and arrived the following match day with a pop-up shop.

The Trust published minutes of a meeting with the board of directors that clearly stated the lease agreements with all tenants had been reviewed and were being adhered to now.

Hardly the same level of professionalism is it? If they want to bring a fight to our door then they should expect some flak back .

Agreed, judd and here are no similarities to Halifax - in our case because the club own the ground outright and mortgage free.

The history and the facts are all in the public domain also.

Reporting from the Trust meeting with the club of 7th April:
https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2022/04/meeting-with-the-board-3/

Hornets

Q: How are relations with the Rugby Club at the moment? It’s been noted that they have operated under certain restrictions for their home games so far.

A: The Club conducted a review of all lease agreements as part of a Health and Safety review during the season. This wasn’t just with Hornets, but was with other lease holders such as Icon Sports, the NHS amongst others. Hornets are currently fully up to date with rent payments, and are currently operating within the rules of the lease agreement. As part of that, they have to operate under the Football Club’s Safety Certificate which makes the RAFC Board liable for its matches, hence the need to ensure that no one operates outside of the lease agreement.

I don't think that can be clearer.

Also though linked to that article is another Trust Statement from August 2014, well before the sale of the ground to the club by the RFL and the Council in 2016.

https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2014/08/trust-statement-spotland-stadium/

It is our belief that earlier in the year, the Council were fully supportive of Rochdale A.F.C.’s bid to buy the Stadium, given the assurances regarding Rochdale Hornets and the Stadium Company debts. Not only that, the belief was that the RFL were willing to do business with Rochdale AFC given the assurances that were being made.

However, it would appear that the change in leadership at the Council no longer seems to be backing this plan. As such, we are asking questions about who’s best interest they are acting in. The new Council Leader Richard Farnell is a Rochdale Hornets sponsor and the man he placed in charge of the Stadium Company — Allen Brett — is a former Hornets director. Furthermore, after taking on the position on June 4th, Allen Brett spoke on BBC Radio on August denied any knowledge of a Stadium purchase claiming to be “flabberghasted” despite the bid being on the cards for a number of months and front page news in the Rochdale Observer.

We believe the debt currently stands in excess of £600,000 and as things stand, it is increasing year by year. Under the current three party ownership, this debt will continue to grow until the day when it becomes unsustainable and the Stadium enters administration.

So, in 2014, having reached an unsustainable position of owning over £600,000 to numerous creditors, the club bought the ground in 2016 and took on the historic debts as a mortgage and paid every penny back to the Council.

What a bad deal for the football club! A tripartite arrangement from the late 1980's that saw three parties supposedly liable for the debts of a Stadium Company saw in the end the bill actually picked up in full by the football club.

Then in 2016, the deal was done:

https://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2016/march/rochdale-football-club-secure-full

The shares will transfer to Rochdale AFC and the council will recover the original outlay of £100,000.

Loans of £529,000 the stadium company has with the council will be consolidated and repaid over nine years at commercial rates, which will help keep professional sport in the borough and reduce exposure to future risk for the council.

Rochdale Hornets Rugby League Football Club have signed a new long-term lease as part of the agreement.

So not only did the club pick up the bill - they had to spread that over 9 years and pay commercial rates of interest on it. Reading that the council has had all of the money in the deal back.

And then in 2022 there is a crude attempt to rewrite longstanding history on the subject.

If I quote the OP on 24th February on "restrictions on matchday operations" its now 5 months of bleating and no substance.

Today Twitter tells us that the phone line for Hornets isn't working due to "some technical issues" but to go to the stadium early or email instead if you need assistance.

I think we can all see through what is really happening.

The 2-6th teams play off across 4 matches. Eventually a second team is promoted.

I thought that they could not go any lower but they have won first prize. What have they achieved with all the things they have done. I get the impression that the new masters at the football club are needing to get as much income into the club as they can. They clearly are having financial problems and are not putting their hands in their own pockets.

I have supported both clubs all my life but like many i spoke to yesterday will never watch the football there ever again. i also will never buy another pint on match days as that goes to them as well."

Also interesting to note that 'the hornet' has gone very quiet since the thread was removed!

The flyers going to local houses offering reduced admission for adults and free admission for kids is a great idea though to be honest - maybe something we could look at in future around the immediate catchment area. Probably too late for the opening game of the season, but hopefully something we look at in future.

Anyone planning on going to their forum on the 17th? Hopefully there will be some Dale presence there to ensure no legal lines are crossed within their conversations...

I dont think the bleating will stop until the details of the lease are revealed publicly.

The heat has been turned up by the bleaters following their first home game since May with apparently all traces of Hornets having been removed. Now we all know mud sticks so it would be very helpful to have an explanation.

It wouldnt surprise me if the lease was about renting the ground on match days and had no provision for other facilities (ie club administration, commercial activities etc beyond match days). Also the restricted capacity appears to be arising from matters of public safety, yet the restrictions are being removed for next Sundays game. There may be very good reasons for not entering the public debate but we are not going to shut up Mazey and his cronies without explaining the clubs position. We need to win not just a legal battle, but a PR battle too.

It is tragic that the towns two professional sports clubs are not getting along, but personalities and egos obviously come into it…one in particular.

Has anyone seen an attendance announced for yesterday?
At an RFL meting the other week clubs were reminded of their obligation to publish these figures after Bradford were accused on social media of falsifying theirs by artificially inflating them.
Must be something about that particular city!
I think it's significant that Hornets feel the need to push sales for next Sunday with these flyers. They obviously have no faith in their ability to fill the main stand for a promotion clash without this kind of marketing.
I was talking to a rugby league journalist over the weekend who covers Swinton among other teams and he was telling me that Andy Mazey is desperate for a decent turnout against his former club, a team whose gates have apparently increased since he left which must annoy him.

"I worked for the stadium company for 6 years. This was when the football club only owned 45% of the stadium. On a Monday morning after a rugby match I would know that I would face abuse from Russ Green CEO and David Bottomley a Director I welcomed the opportunity to correct them It was not difficult. Now that they own the club it can only be worse. They are totally different people but the pathetic behaviour remains. "

That's an interesting post in there in that it names 2 names. Unless the poster has used their real name at the top of the thread it risks being taken down.

Fair play to that poster going into that organisation for so long knowing their Monday blues would be made even worse if Hornets had played at home.

Either way it should be pretty easy to go through the Stadium Company records to see who worked there around that time. It can't have been a cast of 1000s.
If anyone can be bothered that is.
