2022-2023 Squad 00:29 - Apr 10 with 62588 viewsHullDale

Just had a quick look at the squad, and who is contracted for next season:

Contracted for 2022/23
Sam Graham - Summer 2023
Max Taylor - Summer 2023
Aidy White - Summer 2023

Liam Kelly - Summer 2023
Conor Grant - Summer 2023
Jimmy Keohane - Summer 2023
James Ball - Summer 2024
Ethan Brierley - January 2024

Abraham Odoh - Summer 2023
Luke Charman - Summer 2024
Tahvon Campbell - Summer 2024

Out of Contract
Joel Coleman
Jay Lynch
Brad Wade

Jim McNulty
Eoghan O'Connell
Jeriel Dorsett (loan expires)
Joe Dunne
Corey O’Keeffe
Paul Downing (loan expires)
Max Clark

George Broadbent (loan expires)
Stephen Dooley
Alex Newby

Josh Andrews (loan expires)
Danny Cashman (loan expires)
Matt Done

10 players contracted, 17 either out of contract or loan expiring. I half expect us to try and sign Broadbent & Dorsett permanently, but one thing is for certain - 2022/2023 will be a fully Stockdale squad. Out of everybody in contract for next season only Keohane & Grant are survivors from the BBM era! Hopefully the rumoured increased playing budget, coupled with a more settled club and experience from this season, will see a more competitive team next season.

I am sure I read that Brierley signed a 2 1/2 year deal when he signed pro which would make him on contract next season

Is Brierley out of contract? I'd have hoped we had an option of extension. That's worrying could lose him for peanuts.

Poll: What are we more excited for?

I was wondering what happening wing Peter Thomas he was offered pro terms last summer and nothing happened, hope we can sign him on if he hasn’t already, he look on fire with the youth team

A lot of shape shifting over the summer then. An increased wage budget and some big earners out of contract should see a significantly different squad. We will need a new defense and keeper for starters. I'm not which which out of contract players should be offered a new deal. I suspect O'Connell will look elsewhere, but may again be disappointed.

I wonder if Stockdale will make Graham and White available for transfer. They have not made an impact. Hopefully we will get a first choice keeper and a bit more pace and physicality especially in midfield.

I believe Brad Kelly, the young goalie, signed a 3 year deal last summer.

So we have a team:

Kelly
Odoh - Graham - Taylor - Keohane
Ball - Kelly - Brierley - Grant
Charman - Campbell

Apologies to Odoh for playing him at full back, but with his pace and tenacity could be rather good there...

Would expect O'Connell, Clark and O'Keeffe to be offered new deals but that O'Connell could possibly get a better offer elsewhere and be off.

would love Downing to be signed but I assume out of our budget & he would like to play at a higher level. The 3 contracted defenders are a worry as they could waste money better utilized on others. As someone has said RS cannot have too many complaints next year as it will be his own signings + some decent ones staying. He may end up being judged on the number o goals his forwards start to score ( or not score!)

Hope he doesnt try and sign Broadbent and Dorsett , both not good enough.
Worrying with those 3 defenders . Could try and offload them .
But it means a massive amount of new players coming in , taking time to gel etc ...
I wouldnt offer OKeefe or Clark a new contract either , they dont have the apitude or application to provide anything for us .

Looking at the list of the out of contracts and loanees then the options.

O'Connell try and keep his services for another 2yr deal.
O'Keeffe try and keep his services for another 2yr deal.

Then..
See if a deal with Downing can be done.
Also Dorsett is out of contract at Reading in the summer and maybe try and get bim in on a deal.
Maybe offer Clarke a 12month deal.
Keep Lynch as a back up as we dont know much about Wade and the other youngster.

Rest can leave

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

Dorsett not good enough? I'd say there's literally no chance of him signing permanently in the summer; he's destined for far bigger things.

Not sure I agree about Clark. He's always looked decent to me, a tough tackler and able to get down the wing and cross at pace. I've only seen him in home matches tbf, so I don't have the full picture.

As with last season a lot rides on Bonsey staying with us. The CH positions are already a problem. I hope Jim signs a coaching deal, the club will want him to register as a player as well no doubt, for development purposes.
Personally I would resign Lynch who is as good as you need as a back up. So Wade (really what was that 3 year deal all about) and Coleman are surplus, especially with Kelly on board.
Can’t see any of the loanees returning. Matty Done has been a fine servant but I thing this will be his last year. So supplementing the forwards will be another key area.
What to make of Dooley? IMO there must be better and options available in his role than him who wouldn’t cost us a bigger wage, so I would pass him over. He may even get more money if he drops a division.
Plenty to ponder in the next 3 months. Over to you Board and RS.

Suspect I'm on my own with this but I really don't want us to sign Downing. I suspect his wage demands are going to be at the very top end of what we can afford and with his injury record I worry we'd have another McShane/Ryan/McLaughlin/White on our hands.

Tangled up in blue.

One more thought is it time to discuss an extension with Conner Grant? His stock is probably at its highest right now. For me I would allow enough headroom in the budget to start talking to him before the next season starts. He is one who I do believe would be even better playing in L1. Wonder if other clubs might think the same.

There's definitely a risk involved with Downing's injuries previous to Dale. The staff hopefully have a better understanding of that risk now he's been with us a few months. Agree we should only sign him if we're confident in him being available for the majority of a season.

One of the few players at the moment that looks like a sellable asset.

Strongly suspect we'll try and offload Graham and White. I've nothing against the latter but he's has very little impact this season. Graham, unfortunately, isn't good enough I don't think.

I wouldn't lose sleep over any of the out of contract players going. I would offer deals to O'Connell while knowing full well he'll leave, O'Keeffe with a slim hope he'd stay and Max Clark but only a one year deal I think. Wouldn't be annoyed to see Newby stay although I wouldn't be gutted to see him go either. The rest I actively want to go and I really hope Stockdale is as ruthless as I want him to be there. Neither goalkeeper has covered themselves in glory, Wade hasn't been able to make the step up under three different managers, McNulty doesn't offer enough on the pitch though if he was to stay as a coach and a mentor to the younger players that's fine. Joe Dunne I've not seen enough of but can't imagine him staying while Done and Dooley don't offer anywhere near enough. I'm not even sure what Dooley offers other than being good at 5-yard passes and Done hasn't deserved any of his last two new contract I don't think but has at least been a good servant.

A big summer of transition, like every other summer in the past few years and one where Robbie will be able to really put his own stamp on it and I'm very intrigued to see how the squad will look this summer.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

I would allow Graham to leave, but who would sign Aidy White? in respect to contracts to those out of contract:
Contract offer:
O'keefe ( 2 year), Clark (1 year), O'Connell ( 2 year - I suspect that he would be off, no matter what), Lynch ( 1 year )
- Would try for Downing, Dorsett (no chance to be honest)

let go:
Coleman, Done (I would consider offering him a coaching Role), McNulty (he should focus on his coaching role), Dooley

Unsure:
Newby (he has ability, but.....), Wade, Dunne

We need a proper Right Back, possibly 2 Central defenders, a midfield leader or 2 in the Matty Lund style and at least two good strikers.

My guess
Released - Newby, Coleman, Dunne, Wade, Done

Contract offers to O'K, Clark, O'Connell, Lynch, Dooley, McNulty (I'd imagine 2 of those will say no)

Try to offload Graham, White

Try to re-sign on loan Dorsett (unlikely) Downing (unlikely)

Complete defensive rebuild needed plus an experienced striker and central midfielder (not Broadbent)

Poll: Final position

I think we're going to need 10/11 quality permanent signings either contract renewals or new signings. And then it'd be nice to see some 1st year pro contracts offered to yts.

Past that it'd be nice not to rely on loan signings but use them as additional recruitment if needed

Even Broadbent I would say gets more stick than he deserves. He's 21 and we're his first experience of professional football at EFL level. He hasn't lived up to the unfair hype that Stockdale put on him but he's also not looked out of place in our (albeit poor) squad. If he gets a contract I hope it's value for money and it's because RS sees potential to be much better next season.

I won't be upset if we sign him.

My issue with Broadbent is that he always looks knackered. I'm not sure he is fit enough to cover the ground and he is a bit light weight.

There’s talk about signing Downing but would he, even if wages could be agreed, want to potentially go through another season like the one we’ve just endured?
He’ll probably see himself as a League One player.
I’ve just written on another thread that one player I’d love to see in a Dale shirt is Piergianna from Oldham.
