To be fair Brackley looked better than their league position and didn't play like a team who'd lost their last 3 games. They certainly gave us more problems than many teams we've played this season. Thank God for Mani D - real quality tonight and he got us the win we needed with York slipping up - Boreham Wood (a) was highlighted as a potential bananaskin for them last week when talking about them not losing again this season. Hopefully their confidence will have taken a knock - its amazing what 1 defeat after so long undefeated can do.

And all eyes on Eastleigh now - they're at York on Saturday, before hosting Dale the week after.
Maestro? No.
Elite? No.
Heavyweight poster? No.
Able to be rational and not over-react to individual results? Yes.

Gilmour out for five weeks. Hope East only had cramp when he went down late on.
Pettit now has a chance to finally fulfil the potential we all saw in preseason.
Pettit was superb. Him and Smith as subs sealed the win with their energy.
Whatever idiotic crowd counters say about attendances, as Jim says, we make a difference for our lads. When news went round about York losing, the crowd around the ground gave such a lift to the players. U Block can be heard far away from the ground as I was told tonight at a licenced house I was in afterwards
Nice post-match from Jim

Some interesting comments from more rational York fans on social media today. Consensus seems to be that they’re running on empty due to a packed fixture schedule and that they’ve played too many games of 100 plus minutes recently. They seemed agreed as well that they got out of jail in the Morecambe and Hartlepool games. Another interesting issue seems to be that some of their fans feel that they desperately need to sign a striker as they only have Pearce and Stones for that position? Contrast that with Dale last night where BJ could introduce Doku and Smith off the bench and still have Hendo up his sleeve.

Excellent 3 points... Not at our absolute best but what a night regarding results.
We badly missed Gilmour, Francis for me a little off the pace but lets see how he settles in with games under his belt.
Mani D hitting top form, 2 very good finishes lets hope this continues.
The rally cry from Jim, lets all get to Spotland on Saturday and get right behind the lads.. smaller in numbers but the number is growing. The town has to wake up soon that Dale are having THE season of all seasons.

Couple of cracking post-match interviews from the manager and KG. Jim reading the room and getting the tone spot on sending lots of little messages in a composed selfless manner when the adrenaline must be flying. He's Rochdale values through and through with just the right amount of ego and edge. Becoming an excellent manager.

A stark contrast to York manager's post match.

Sad to say but I am a self confessed “idiotic crowd counter” & was disappointed by the attendance last night. The club can’t do any more than it is already, but if the town won’t turn out to watch what will be a record breaking season & a nail biting title race then what will get them off their backsides?

Some interesting trends in recent matches-having watched back on Dzone to check what I thought happened.
We are conceding goals to defenders coming through particularly at set pieces. Yeovil, Halifax and now Brackley. Looking at the playbacks it appears we are too congested in defence and especially to unmarked defenders coming on to the ball. It is important now more than ever to leave a speedy man well upfield which always takes 2 opposition players out of the action and unclutters the penalty box action. It also gives the keeper a quick outball if the attack breaks down.
The combination of a crowded penalty box and zonal marking is not good , but I must admit it has worked well until recently . Dale have not played this for quite some time-I used to hate seeing Liam Kelly dancing round the penalty box making awful tackles.
I suspect word has got round that we are susceptible to a high press and more attacking from the start.
Thank God for Mani D.

With the run of Tues/Sat fixtures we've had recently, i think a lot of people might be finding their finances stretched. I was unable to be there last night (for other reasons) but i've been quite pleased with how our home fan numbers have been gradually increasing, hovering around 2500-2700 mark
Obviously less last night, but expect most of them (us, me) to return against Boston
This year, Rochdale is the Greater Manchester "town of culture" and football is - or should be - seen as part of our culture. Whilst i've no problem with initiatives which encourage activities in the fields of arts and performance (where 'inclusivity' can be seen and heard) our local sporting culture shouldn't be excluded from that, and the club might do well to approach the organisers of these events to suggest some kind of collaboration for the remainder of the season. In fact, i'm going to put this forward as a question to the forthcoming CAB meeting. All of this, with the aim of growing our fanbase

Totally agree DA.
The decision in 1948 to create an Arts Council to only support 'high art' culture to the exclusion of the wartime experience of ENSA etc was elitist, divisive and reactionary.
Now that 'Culture' (as Govt. defines) includes Sports, lower league football deserves tax payer support - indeed I fear it may be the only way to retain this essential working class culture in the years ahead.

Just watched the goals back. 2 truly awful goals conceded. Twice Whatmuff has been beaten now by that looping header at Yeovil and last night. The 2nd corner the player peels to the back post and its another free header and Whatmuff isn't fouled - no one near him really so don't know why he's complaining. We need to sort out these lapses because we shouldn't need 3 goals at home to win a game.

On the 2nd there was a Brackley player on the floor, I think he was complaining about him blocking his dive. I don't think so, he should have just dived on top of him and worried about it after.

If Whatmuff has a weakness, it's maybe positioning (which comes with experience) and he doesn't dominate his area with high balls

Ive noticed Whatmuff has been beaten on his left hand side what feels like numerous times recently, 2 games on the run he got beat by long range shots down to his left and that header last night should never have found back of the net either, as good as he clearly is with his feet and comfortable on the ball his left hand side definitely needs some work on. Id imagine there's more analysis that I have to hand available for the coaching team to work on with him.

Well that was very alright in the end. East has become very important in that midfield role. Not that he is similar to Gilmour, but he provides the continuity. Then others can be slotted around him. In terms of importance EEL is currently absolutely pivotal to our prospects on the run in. Until another CH is recruited he is going to need to play every minute of every game. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are not going to recruit a direct back up. Just feel they would have been in by now. Rather I feel they have had a look at what’s available and decided the better options are already in the dressing room. Guess there are plenty of players we all want to see play every minute left in the season. The POTS award will have plenty of strong nominations this season. Would like to see us get to the Southend game in hand with the same or better points deferential than York. That would then be a massive opportunity. UTD
