Old Season Review DVD/ VHS
at 19:57 1 Nov 2020

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any old Dale season review DVD
s or VHS's?

I've got a couple here 06/07 and 07/08 just seeing if anyone else has any other they would either part ways with or have a digital copy they could share?

Cheers

Salary cap
at 08:13 9 Aug 2020

Are these salary caps for playing staff, players or the club as a whole?

According to our accounts we spent £3.5M last two seasons but that seems to include 133 staff in total. We have a total of 42 playing staff which i assume is a portion of that £3,5m

Message from the Chairman
at 23:44 4 Aug 2020

I appreciate the honesty from the Chairman, we appear to be one of the straightest chairman to supporter connections around

Few points from me

1 - They laid 2 pitches in the last few years without guarantee and wasted somewhere around $600k - this pitch comes with a guarantee - still a huge waste of money and annoys me!
2 - The club made a loss of £1.2m last year and football clubs work in an unsustainable model that when sh*t hits the fan, they will struggle and some clubs will go bust. We can't be the only one in this situation
3 - Lower league clubs work on the basis a high proportion of income comes through match day revenue. The chairman makes a valid point and this could struggle for however long restrictions stay in place
4 - Do the board provide quarterly financial and performance updates to stakeholders? That should now show cup money and some year on year improvements
5 - I thought the Matheson deal was rumored to be installments depending on appearances etc..we might have got X amount which had already been earmarked for something but the future fees could take years to kick in, It wouldn't surprise me if the Adshead deal was similar

I for one am feeling pretty nervous about the future of many clubs at the moment especially those under the championship without decent TC revenue. I do however have decent faith in the board who over the years have always put the longevity of the club first and i have no reason to think that would change.

I hate to look at the negativity but this will be a really difficult season. The club will have allocated less wage budget than before hence not resigning our quality players and if the market as a whole doesn't make an amendment shortly, the rich will get richer and the poor get poorer. It wouldn't surprise me to see the dale bring in a few more L2 / National league level player who may be ready for the next level with substantially less pay on the contract.

I really hope we make it through the next year as club

Version 1 is on the google drive

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GWh5Ue_zd2A0niPpHmIKQrYQYtb3b_a1?usp=sha

Anyone with the link should be able to access it.

With lockdown easing in NZ I've struggled to get the time to finish it off to where i'm happy to release a version but thought bugger it, it's taken so many hours to pull data from the English National Football archive and heaps of effort.

Version 1 includes

PLAYER DASHBOARD
The player dash is working and pulls through the player name, appearances per comp & Goals. The options at the bottom can change a player name show a certain comp or certain years (hold shift to add multiple years to a player)

ALL TIME RECORDS TAB
Takes data from all seasons to rank all time goals & appearances per competition as well as all time.

ALL TIME SEASONS TAB
Takes data from all seasons to rank by season tally for goals & appearances per competition.

EVERY SEASONS DATA
Tabs from 1921/22 to 2019/20 showing all players used, appearances, goals, starts, sub appearances per competition

I have a huge backlog of things to fix up.

Phase 1 backlog

Pull player photos through to the dashboard
Get rid of the :th: showing on the dash
Make it look pretty
Create an easy to read PDF version on the records for mobiles

Phase 2 Backlog

Add every Rochdale game to the database
Expand stats to club stats
and the list goes on

It's not perfect but it's consumed a lot of time and a lot of effort has gone in, feel free to use it wherever you guys wish and hope it helps when someone ask how many games did they play or how many goals did they score...that is literally the reason i did it!

Enjoy

**PROGRESS UPDATE**
Started playing with some new graphics which will pull data from the spreadsheet - open to any feedback if there is something you would want to see

https://ibb.co/q7jChbW

eg - Place down the right showing year on year stats etc

Still got the league cup formula editing to finish it off to get the "correct" figures - app, games etc....

There will be filters at the bottom of this where you can select which player you want to see and his profile details come up - building the same for a club season by season view and will update the all time & season records to make them look more appealing

Also thought it would be cool with creating each player a unique ID that ID is the number player they were to take the field for dale in league football - similar to the England cricket team - again on the backlog to work through :)

**PROGRESS UPDATE**

Thanks for all the messages and information provide so far, really big help with working out how to validate data going forward.

I am into the final hurdle for the excel version of the database. This is all the data collected from the national football achieve - season by season and then through formulas and macro's it pumps out appearance and goal stats overall total and by completion. I just have the league cup to go and add a few buttons to automate future changes.

Will be a good milestone to tick off knowing i have a working model.

The most league appearances for the club according to the ENFA are:

NAME APPEARANCES START SUB
Gary Jones 470 449 21
Graham Smith 317 316 1
Reg Jenkins 305 294 11
Ian Henderson 297 289 8
Ray Aspden 297 297 0
Dave Thompson 266 237 29
Wayne Evans 259 259 0
Josh Lillis 252 249 3

The official club stats? Do they have a home on the web anywhere?

https://ibb.co/3BK5w3B

Hopefully that pic comes up - the numbers in the total app & goals are wrong as i've not finished the league cup but gives a sense of how the summary tab might look (there are around 150 worksheets) at the end

WOW that must have been a hell of a lot of work!!! Do you still have the data collected and would i be able to use as a check point against the football archive data?

Do you think you will do something with the data in the future?

**PROGRESS UPDATE**

Using the English National Football archive I've managed to create a DB using every single player season record back to 1921/22 the first year in the football league. I'm in the home stretch!!!!! . I've managed to use macro's to manipulate the data to the correct format etc...

Hit the slower hard yards which si going through every playoff, football league cup & league cup game to break out data but the end version will show

Name, starts, sub appearances, goals in total plus a breakdown of tier, 4, tier 3, 3rd Div (n), 3rd Div cup, playoffs, fa cup, football league cup (carabao) and league cup

My question is to those in the know how accurate is the football league database?

Once I've finished this i'l put an easy to use front on it and upload to a google drive for people to access if they love a bit of stats like me. This is built in excel with formulas, vlookups against player ids for now i'm happy with the format but once it's done i will start work on an access database version with game by game details in

Not another Covid-19 thread.
at 10:08 5 May 2020

Agree with this i think the government have had a tough time (White Island, Mosque shooting and now Covid) but has acted quickly and with a decent level transparency. I liked the way they laid out what lockdown looks like at different levels early on.

One point to add is L3 allows more business to operate (estimated 300-400 thousand workers).

There will be more and more noise about moving to L2- which is retail can open, cafe's, bars etc (i think) with the low numbers but would guess they will wait another 2 weeks to see if we see a "surge" in cases at L3.

The economy will struggle (i'm expecting to lose my job Thursday) but so will the world. What NZ is put people over ego (imo) and i'm hoping with (touch wood) being covid free we might get some sort of economy back up and running sooner rather than later.

The latest rumors on boarders being opened is when a vaccine is available. I wonder if that's the new world we see where you can only travel with a vaccine for Covid?

As for National they could do with a change of leader very similar to what labour did at the last election...bridges won't lead them anywhere soon

As for Jacinda - i think she's is a great leader, talker and act's with people's best interests at heart - do i agree with all her decisions, no...do i agree with all the policies ...no but for what it's worth she 100% is the best person to lead the country right now

So I've gone over the last 25 years and some stats look "better" but that doesn't mean they're right.

Take Jonah as an example from the English National Football Archive it has him down as 470 league appearances, in my database i now have him at 470 but the club record is 464 league appearances

Football Archive
Rochdale 449+21 74 26 20+3 0 0 35+3 6 3

Dale Wikipedia
Record League appearances — Gary Jones (464 — as at 15 March 2012)

This must be where i need to reference the data to the last day programme of the season and possibly the rothmans football year book?

Thank you mate, big help that information.

I've gone through added the stats from the English National Football Archive in and the differences in 4/5 seasons are massive - so many inaccuracies on the soccerbase site.

Can I take it that the football archive are the correct figures? I can do some double checking with the final programme from each season as a check point. if this is correct it won't take me long to put a full database together as I've built the base and it's data entry from here :)

Thanks TVOS1907

Yeah they didn't look right and soccerbase is all i've had access to so far.

Is there anywhere that the club show the detailed records?

I'm planning on using the rochdale history book as well as the yearly football annuals & matchday programmes to put together the info.

I guess what i have so far is a database that can be edited in terms of numbers easily to provide the details

is there anywhere else you would recommend looking?

**Progress Update**

Database put together for years 1996/97 all the way through to 2019/20.
Includes all league, fa cup, league cup, leasing.com trophy & playoffs games - starts, sub appearances & goals and can be broken down in to multiple categories etc..

I've ordered the Dale history book (thanks for the heads up) to carry on taking this further back, my goals is to create a digital database people can access

Also during this time Dale have played had 399 different players with 42 players only playing 1 game for the dale

Top 10 Appearances in this timeframe (League & Cup)

Gary Jones 533
Ian Henderson 341
Wayne Evans 299
Josh Lillis 292
Neil Edwards 278
Joe Rafferty 254
Matt Done 239
Callum Camps 238
Calvin Andrew 231
Gareth Griffiths 206

Goals (League & Cup)

Ian Henderson 126
Gary Jones 79
Chris Dagnall 60
Adam Le Fondre 42
Grant Holt 42
Clive Platt 37
Lee McEvilly 34
Matt Done 32
Peter Vincenti 32
Paul Connor 32

When I've got everything nailed down and back as far as possible i'l put it on a google drive for you all to access but for now it's keep me incredibly engaged and entertained.

One thing i have found out that wikipedia is at times fairly incorrect and i am having to use multiple sources to find the most reliable information. E.g, Jonah stats are different to the official stats both appearances in league (471 rather than 464 and goals 73 rather than 70). I will keep digging into this stuff to find any anomalies.

If there is anything you want to know stats wise between 1996 and 2020 let me know
