Stoke/Bristol/Leicester – Awaydays
at 14:05 19 Apr 2024

Clive - I’m loving these too, even in their abridged and consolidated form.

Leicester was one of the great away days. Had you eschewed your Curry and attempted to mount the 17.43, you would have found almost identical scenes to those you witnessed an hour later.

Those old enough to know better were shouting at each other on the platform and getting very aggressive. Old Bill was called and sprayed CS Gas, no questions asked.

Train turns up and is delayed for 30 mins whilst BTP’s finest tried to find the miscreants. I got off and went to Nuneaton instead - the epitome of a decaying English market town (surely a topic for a future feature!).

So many treasured memories of watching Stan in his pomp from the Ellerslie with my Dad, also sadly passed away.
If there are some heaven elevens, I hope Stan is wearing the number 10 for the Mavericks and Dad has the best seat in the house.

W12. Perhaps you could have offered cutting edge analysis from your back room for the first test! A real sight at 06.00 for lunch I would imagine.
What’s your view on Stokes? Go down fighting regardless or rein back the hubris?

Box Office normally send them out really quickly. But I haven’t had mine yet. Anyone else who booked them received theirs yet?

Details of the new loans are in the accounts for all to see and they carry a very large MONTHLY interest rate. All of the previous loans from BE, FB, TF and the Mitals were interest free. Just saying this represents a very significant change in the way the club is funded and the repayments have a big impact on how much can be spent on the team. I'm surprised there hasn't been much comment on this previously.

You are definitely a glass half full man W12, whereas I'm a more realistic "what's a glass?" type fan.
Nothing wrong with having sympathies with another team due to personal and geographical history, although most would think that having such sympathies for Fulham or Chelsea was beyond the pale.

W12. Is there a link between some youth getting through and the dreadful quality of the first team squad? I.e. they're getting games because the alternatives are so bad not because they are any good. And are you concerned that such a big chunk of our turnover is going on interest on shareholder loans being paid at much higher than normal interest rates?

Best Performance By A Player You Have Seen
at 18:07 23 Feb 2017

Brian - can I put forward an opposition player. I'd go for Roy Keane playing for Forest in The Bush in 1994(?). He was playing out of position at centre half against a rampaging Les. Rangers were great; Forest weren't. We won 5-3 and Les got a hat-trick, but it would have been many, many more without Keane.

England v Russia fighting. Sounds nasty
at 10:13 12 Jun 2016

Managed to avoid Vieux Port. Did it in 1998 and that was more than enough. I couldn't see any police inside the ground. There is no segregation at tournament football- something worth bearing in mind for Thursday. But where it happened was half Russian half English/neutral. I can only assume the French were responsible for the hasty retreat! Anyway just behind the goal were a load of bare-chested savages - you know the sort. UEFA/police should quickly have spotted the risks and put in a security cordon. Lots of stuff on TV here BTW which shows the Locomotive Moscow mob getting chased on Sat afternoon, so not all one way. Perhaps more pertinent is why the game wasn't switched when the draw was made - they did that for the Croatia game in EURO 2004. Russia/Eng was going to be difficult enough, but Bordeax, for example, might have been less of a powder keg.

Thanks Brighton. Just about to board now. Looking forward to seeing some reflections and apologies by the time we get to a wet LHR. In shocking news they have passport lines just for French citizens. What happened to the promised equal treatment that we pay the glorious EU £350m a year for?

Just on my way back to Marseilles airport. Anyone who wasn't here can have no idea what it was like. Don't rely on the way the press and media reported it. Reading this thread has appalled me and I would hope, in the cold light of day, that a number of people will be apologising for the comments they made last night. I'm reluctant to give them the oxygen of publicity by naming and shaming them, but if they don't know who they are then there is no hope.

I just thought your previous statement - "They're a poisonous club who if they had an ounce of decency and humility ......." - was a little over the top.

I agree with you about civilised behaviour. Often football brings the worst out of people. I remember a trip back from Swansea a few years ago and the look of utter contempt on the faces of the general public at the way some of our own finest were behaving.

Still waiting for you to accept there would have been no trouble if the Hibs fans had stayed off the glorious Hampden sod?
