Next manager and reasons why...
at 20:05 19 Aug 2022

I think we need to forget the idea that a youth team manager can come in and bring the next wonder kid with him so we can cash in, and ali will then be OK,
What we need now is a tried and tested manager who has one task - WIN FOOTBALL MATCHES.
Anyway back to the topic, last night at about 5:45pm Grant Holt was driving away from Rochdale along Broadway, happy to share the photo of him in his car if people don't believe me. Not sure if he has the experience needed but he is a winner and knows how to win football matches.

Remaining games thread ***updated 7/4/18***
at 18:51 7 Apr 2018

I have looked at all end of results for and against, every time it goes down to Dale of Wimbledon for the last relegation/safe position.
Today's last minute own goal has hit us hard and we now need to get a positive result from one of our next two games.
Oldham and Bury on the last day of the season have to do us a good turn beating the Dons

Weaker or stronger?
at 00:20 19 Jan 2018

I think we need to have a wider view on the situation we are in, we have signed some good players who have played at League 1 level and have had good reviews, we have sold a player for a profit who has had divided support from fans (that's what we do and it keeps us going), and we have got rid of/shipped out some under performers. This sounds to me like we are Stronger. If Camps goes it will be for very good money and you can see his head or heart is not 100% with the Dale this year after seeing Lund, Allen, NML etc. go on to better things. I am sure Keith Hill has this already covered as he will have had the calls from other clubs asking about Camps. This will also make us Stronger.

I would also like to say that as mentioned on this thread before we have looked very stagnant this year and predictable how we play, to that end its good to see our manager act to change things around.

On Keith Hill's 5 year contract I congratulate the board on being so forward thinking, you have only got to look back a few years at our past managers to see what we could have if a big club like Bolton, Blackburn, Blackpool, Wigan were to take KH away, we would be stuck with the likes of Man City's youth coach or Soft Lad again. We are going to have a Rochdale football club for a long time and planning for the next five years we need a manager so who better than our current manager who is totally committed to team Rochdale, Please don't focus on the money as we have to pay wages to a manager so why not have a proven one who has given us fans two promotions already.

All that said we are Stronger and will continue to get Stronger even if our league position is not where our expectations are at any given time.

Agree that McGahey has done ok, I only had Canavan and McNulty together as they have played together last year and we have not had a clean sheet this season.

McNulty is not a bad player at L1 standard, the problem is he is being asked to play out of position and has unfortunately no cover in front of him. Henderson is playing left side of midfield and has a licence to go AWOL so McNulty is always going to be exposed. If you look at the right side with a true fullback (Raferty) playing in his regular position with a true right sided midfielder (Cannon) playing in front of him you will always have cover and they can work as a team. My suggestion would be to play McNulty and Canavan as the center backs with Tanser at left back with NML in front of him, this would free up Henderson to play upfront with Calvin or Davis.

Scott Hogan one year loan at Dale
at 21:05 25 Apr 2016

I know he's a goal scorer, 3 in 2 but then did not even get a subs place at weekend?

I can only report what I have been told and totally agree it would be fantastic for us if it did happen

Scott Hogan one year loan at Dale
at 20:51 25 Apr 2016

Heard some interesting news over the weekend, two separate people mentioned to me facts about Scott Hogan
Firstly, Brentford are looking to send him out on loan as they still want him but feel he needs to start over again scoring some goals - Loan to Christmas or full season?
Secondly, he has just bought a house in Norden. I know the address but its not right to post it on here
Think of this what you want buy would be a Hilly type broken toy story again

Progression, stagnation or regression?
at 00:08 11 Feb 2016

I think we all agree in principal, please see a previous post of mine from just before Christmas (below) that will support this, what I do believe though is that Hilly does have the club, the players or the fans at heart, just goes about it in his way.

My post from 19th Dec
I am 100% behind Keith Hill, the backroom staff and the team, but I can't help think that it is Keith who is disconnected with the fans and not sure of the role of a football manager. He is not the Chairman or the Financial Director he is the Manager and responsible for picking the team and portraying a positive outlook on all things team related and challenged and targeted by his employer to gain the highest finishing position possible, this should be top of the league as a primary target not consolidation.

He states may times that we will always be fighting against relegation - this is not a positive attitude that any fan wants to hear, even if he believes this he should nor say it (most employers would have words with employees for this type of verbal outlook)

He continually calls the fans for not understanding what he and the club want to achieve. Maybe he should explain it a little better as it just looks like "we want to develop players (kids and freebies) to make money and not reinvest". Rochdale AFC have made good money over the last few years by selling Matty Done, Craig Dawson, COG etc. a little bit of bURY type investment in quality players (not to bankrupt the club) would give the fans hope and support the development of our younger stars of the future.

I want a football manager to explain about the tactics and reasons he made decisions within a game, not, slag off the ref, slag off the fans, slag off ref and slag off the fans again. he made no subs today? we are told we have injuries and have to put one of the coaches BBM on the bench and play him in the last game, but, we have a busy Christmas period coming up and will probably be told the players are tired in the New Year.

Would it not have been better to give a post match report along the lines of - we did not get going today for the first 15 mins or so but I was encouraged by the way the players responded to the mistake we made leading to their goal. We have still a few injuries and players working with the coaching staff to regain their form, these players will be pushing to get in to the starting 11 in the new year and I feel confident we can move up the table when we have a full squad to pick from. We are 4 points off the playoffs going in to the second half of the season and I feel we are well placed after picking up 30 points from 22 games to have a real push for a top 7 finish come the end of the season. I would like to thank all the loyal fans on behalf of myself, the players and the club in general for their support this year wish them a fantastic Christmas and hope to see you all for the game against Crewe here on Boxing Day.

Lets get the connection back, it is both ways but it starts with the Club, Mr Hill and the players. Bring back the "NO FEAR" mantra instead of the "we will always be fighting relegation" line

Progression, stagnation or regression?
at 23:38 10 Feb 2016

Please let me clear my point up, sorry if anyone thought I was saying that my view was more educated than anyone else's, this was not my point.

I am sure that the entire coaching staff and the manager have a very close relationship with each other at our club, they all train together (if we can tell come Saturday), travel together, we know they socialise together with there families etc. By this close relationship they must know one another very well, hence I'm sure that Hilly is constantly talking to the younger players with a view to making them better players and all round professionals, I am also sure he is constantly talking to the more experienced players asking them show the way and take extended responsibilities i.e. to guide the younger players. If with all this close contact some of the players become bigger than the team (we've seen Keltie in the past) and the younger players not step up to the mark when he believes they can, he might have to try to get a reaction some way.
An example of this is to say about Bunny being a amateur, he did not call him anything bad just probably reaffirmed a point he might have already asked him to change in private, the other option would be to say nothing and send him to Northwich Vics then release him at the end of the season to become an semi-pro and work at another job in the week. What's best to be open and honest and give him a chance to up his game or just make the decision for him?

Nor kindergarten infants who will cry until morning break

He is dealing with mercenary grown men who would find another employer for a few quid more. What Rochdale offer is an opportunity to develop and progress under the guidance of the coaches, and manager, and if they cant take the truth and the facts will not survive in the professional football environment.

What I also find very hard to understand is the fact that after every poor team performance this site goes mad calling for the same players to be dropped, sold, given away to a non-league club on loan, publicly flogged, branded a leper etc. and when our manager protects those players and tries to develop them we have a go at him too. Double standards????

I except your view and as I said "should they be good enough to go up a level". I think we all want the same thing and there will always be diamonds (not Barry but more Done, Hogan, COG, Holt, Lambert, Dawson etc.) and the Donnelly's and Shaw's a possibly only time will tell Lewis Alessandra.

We have to trust Hilly to get more right than he gets wrong, after all he has a pretty good track record for us. Also lets not forget the type of football we had to put up with before him - Eyre, Coleman and Parkin, how far do we have to go back?

True Mr Hill is not the football pundit that you see on MOTD or any other TV show but neither was Alex Ferguson or Jose Mourinho. What I want to see in a manager is someone who can spot talent and blend the a squad of players to better themselves, better the team and take the club forward as is happening now.

Some might say that dropping Lillis, publicly calling Bunny and Cannon was bad man management others might have a more educated view and see it as challenging them to become stronger, better and have more determination to fight for there place and the team cause, should they be good enough to go up a level. I say inspired leadership not poor management.

I think that this season has been already a success, we have pretty much CONSOLIDATED our position as a League 1 club, OK had some indifferent results and some one off hard to take defeats but, we have beaten clubs who are at the top of the division and clubs we have no given right to beat.

I can remember when we had players such as Mark Hilditch, Barry Wellings and Keith Hill in our team and as they always gave their all for the Dale did not have the talent that we see in todays squad. We have witnessed in the last 5 - 10 years some of the best players coming through our club that any Dale fan has ever seen so lets enjoy it and pray it continues.

Last night I went to see MK Dons v Middlesbrough play and although the game was not the spectacle a neutral fan would want to see the quality of the players was better than any player we have watched at Dale this season (home team or away team). This leads me to finish on exactly what our visionary manager states time and time again, that we live within our means, play the game the right way, develop players, strengthen from within, consolidate our position year on year and collectively enjoy the ride.

Dale Co-op latest: meeting 2 Sept

I've just pledged

This can only be a good thing, 10 hours are nothing to give up. If everyone in the Town or if even only every Dale fan offered to give 10 hours of there time to make the town a better place how good do you think it could be.

Lets stop this stupid chant (you all know the one) and lets be proud to be true Rochdalians

What score will it be at Blackpool today?
Who will score our next goal? (could be any of our stars)
What position will we be at the end of the season?
What are tonight's lottery numbers?

Stupid question, lets get back to this being a football site

Looks to me like vote winning by the Labour council, let as many people in as you can and get the feedback "what good people they are who run Rochdale town, they give you EVERYTHING free. I'll vote for them"
You don't get this in the South East of England or West Oxfordshire because the running councils support and value their pepole
