Investment update
at 13:23 21 Apr 2024

Been a fan for 25 years and this is the most excited/relieved/emotional I’ve been about Dale for as long as I can remember.

I echo what others say that this means more than all the promotions, cup runs and derby wins. It allows us to survive for generations to come.

This also has the potential to be a massive turning point in the clubs history, and it isn’t just about league positions.

For too long Rochdale as a town has been run through the mud by press and people alike. Rochdale’s crap, so we’re crap and by extension our football club, despite all the good we’ve done from a footballing perspective in the past 10-15 years.

I have to admit I’m a sceptic myself and fell into this: “why would anyone invest in little old Rochdale”. We don’t get the right amount of fans in the gates, we’re plucky and just get by.

However our prayers have been answered here and I genuinely feel with the right moves from our prospective new owners this could not only turnaround the football club but bring more to the town as a whole.

We’re never going to be huge spenders (rightly so) but having a community asset that is competitive and doesn’t have to bow down other clubs around us because they’ve got more cash in the bank.

My brother-in-law is a York City fan. They’ve had a very poor season on the pitch, but the people of York back the team week in week out. They average somewhere in the region of 5000 a week nowadays and the atmosphere is fantastic.

We need to put moves in to do the same, coupled with how expensive Premier League football is to watch nowadays smaller clubs like us have a massive opportunity to swell up disassociated fans who are from Rochdale but can no longer afford to watch United, City, Liverpool etc.

I used to dream of coming to a sold out Spotland week in week and for the first time ever I can see this being a possibility. There’s a huge amount of work to do but I will be there for the whole journey starting with buying my season ticket as soon as they are on sale.

This town and team is worth investing in. Up the Dale

Well done Mr Danczuk yet again....
at 14:07 16 Aug 2016

Why can't I help but think there is a hidden agenda behind all of this?

Danzcuk is probably one of the most well known Labour MPs at the moment (for various reasons) and scandals with him are 10 a penny. The man is a very outspoken critic of Corbyn, and for a year now has consistently been publically speaking about deselection fears.

If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd think that there are some in the Labour Party (Danczuk himself or other members through various leaks) that are looking for that first piece of evidence of deselection. And that potentially people are trying to force the hand of Corbyn into this and bring Labour into further outcry over his leadership.

Politics is a dirty game and either Danzcuk is very mentally unstable at this moment in time, or he's playing a part in this game.

And throughout all of this Rochdale's name continues to be tarnished.

The hypocrisy angers me Re: Student night tonight...
at 11:53 19 Apr 2016

I do think it's a good idea for £1 entry for students tonight, and this does appeal to the set of supporters who are studying or who are young workers around the town.

But, as part of a different demographic of student myself, namely being at University, this couldn't have come at a worse time. Most University students will not be at home during this time of the year due to being in the middle of assessment and exam periods. Maybe it would have been a better idea for these to be around the holidays so that they could get the most out of students coming to the games.

I'm not knocking the idea itself for tonight's game, but more the timing of it

New Labour and Blairism consigned to the dust bin of history
at 19:02 17 Sep 2015

I would say I'm indifferent on the case for Trident. I can understand why some people see the need for it I just think fundamentally it is a shame that projects like this do take precedent over others. Wouldn't have it myself mind.

Funny how we seemingly can't afford a free NHS anymore but have absolutely no issue in spending 100 billion in renewing Trident.

I would definitely put Cannon at RB and give Raff another go at the holding role. Think he did more than enough to warrant another chance there whereas Bennett has been less than impressive for me. I do understand he's just come back from injury though so hopefully we'll see the best of him soon

Match thread
at 23:06 11 Aug 2015

Just got back from the game. Thoroughly entertaining from both sides from start to finish.

Dale were very strong first half and deservedly took the lead. It was coming for a while. Everything was going through Mcdermott who had a stormer. Once he's fit he will be a fantastic asset for us, his touch, awareness and the way he could pass the ball was superb. His goal was brilliant as well, good work through the midfield by Camps who teed him up with a curler into the top corner. Bunney was definitely the weak link and was rightly substituted at half time

Second half we let Coventry back into the game by sitting off and just inviting pressure, this happened in the first half but we had much more possession of the ball so didn't see Cov attack as much. This coupled with tired Dale legs meant chances were coming thick and fast and a Henderson mistake to give them back possession outside our box let them back in it with a goal with some poor defending as well. After that I couldn't see us winning but we found a bit more gas in extra time and managed to pull through with some good penalties.

Biggest problem attacking wise was we didn't really seem to have anyone in the middle to capitalise on some really good service at times with some wasted chances in between. Good defensive display mostly until some errors creeped in through tired legs but thats not to fault the work rate of anyone tonight. All the lads gave their all

Its heartwarming to see that some people do still take real pride on our town. Something I will be supporting and hoping has a positive impact

Henderson: Barnsley approach?
at 08:10 28 Jul 2015

The thought of Henderson leaving would upset me but I'd get over it knowing we are well on the way to having a good team ready for the 8th August

But just the thought of Hendo ending up at Bury makes me shiver. Let's hope these rumours stay just rumours

More publicity for the Danczuks
at 23:32 4 Jul 2015

The more and more I saw of the Danczuks in papers the more it made me feel sick that they were representing our town with the tripe they were coming out with and I can't say I'm surprised that a story like this has come out of their divorce.

Simon managed to bring out underlying problems within child sex abuse claims. Fantastic, but there are also other matters that he was elected for that he is currently not doing. Maybe now as he takes time to reflect he might go back to doing his job properly rather than looking for any way to get his name into the papers.

Karen in my opinion can just do one. Everything that she's done in the past year has been to give herself a famous image that she obviously craves and it doesn't half wind me up when her name appears alongside Rochdale.

Obsessed - Pope to sign for bury
at 18:34 9 Jun 2015

Had enough of the sight of Bury and their spending now. The fact they are able to sign some of these players with the most worrying thing being on the length of contracts. I don't get where the return is coming in though. They haven't got some massive sponsorship and they certainly aren't making enough money off the back of selling players.

Maybe they will get promoted to the Championship and then the real money starts flooding in, but this is a team that limped over the line in League Two with technically the strongest side, a side which will be amongst some big teams in this league.

The ones spending money aimlessly always come crashing down

Did bury Have The Last Giggle After All?
at 16:20 24 May 2015

I think it's difficult for you to compare what's going on at Bury to Crewe. Their system has been built over a number of years. Again, say all these grandiose plans come into fruition in the next 5 years by which time Bury might well be closing in on 8 millions pounds worth of debt. They were then need to start making a profit and to do that they would have to stall themselves on the pitch front with regards to getting to the championship.

I'm not quite sure how becoming a sustainable business correlates so well with being successful on the pitch. Pumping money in the club like that surely isn't sustainable. Surely what's sustainable is creating money around the club that will be a constant stream of income. Something which Bury aren't really doing, they're just spending money which isn't theirs.

Sterling
at 12:38 23 May 2015

I don't see how Sterling owes any major loyalty to Liverpool. I understand that they gave him his break but if he feels that he will have a better career elsewhere then thats up to him. He's not a Liverpool fan or is he a local boy. Granted money will come into it but thats no fault of Sterling's surely thats down to the bosses willing to offer it. But then again, i'd struggle to find someone who wouldn't up their pay for the same job they currently do.

The only gripe I have with this is that Sterling is believing his own hype. Good player but not bigger than Liverpool and would find himself on rotation at most of the big clubs which at this time in his career is never a good thing.

FCUM
at 13:47 17 May 2015

I will always have a slight distaste for FCUM purely based on the night they beat us in the FA Cup, worst night of being a Rochdale fan for myself as we'd become a laughing stock on national TV when we were finally beginning to beat our own stigma.

Also, I feel that there is a huge amount of arrogance that emanates from the FC group of fans. They feel as though they're entitled to the football league and greatness. I think they will start to come up short if make it into the Conference and start to meet teams who also think the same (the likes of Grimsby, Bristol, Wrexham) the difference being those clubs have the history and backing to match. In terms of taking the sponsorship plunge as well they've already shown they are willing too. Our ESPN game, and a lot of their facilities have been funded by an FA scheme where the investment in that comes from TV money.

Saying that, I have been to watch FC a few times over the past couple of years and you can admire what they are doing. It is cheap entertainment and probably proves in itself that the quality of the football on show doesn't really matter that much too them as their fans just want to support a team they feel like is theirs.

As far as losing fans I don't think that will affect us much at all, they've settled in Newton Heath so will most likely try and build a support based around that area. The main negative I seem to find is that will they ever have their own identity? I'm not so sure and that thread of being a United protest will always hang over them which is not something I would particularly want as a supporter as things start to get more serious into the full time side of football

2015/16 new kit
at 10:43 25 Apr 2015

In terms of the kit in it's own right, I think it's rather nice. With Errea aswell we know that despite the design in terms of quality we are getting good gear. But I think it's clear that the club are phasing out the black in our strip. It's hardly a coincidence that it is reminiscent of the old key tech one and with the article outlining how we wanted to keep with "tradition" it's clear the clubs interest lie in returning to those days.

Perhaps one if the main issues aswell is how the current Crown Oil sponsor has looked on previous kits. The stripes last season weren't well received and both this and next seasons kit do have a red sponsor that rather stands out and looks slightly out of place. But with the taking away of the stripes it looks less contrasting

If the General Election were to be held now, which party would you vote for?
at 11:46 8 Jan 2015

Simple, because UKIP have a lot more money to promote themselves and also come with enough controversy to sell more papers without completely destroying the party.

I find it hard to believe how Farage can come across as a man of the people for some when the guy was educated at Dulwich College for a start. Sadly it seems as though UKIP will have a hand to play around the area of Rochdale and others, with only a few hundred votes away from winning the Heywood and Middleton seat which they probably will do this May and they will probably come 2nd in the Rochdale seat aswell.

As a Labour supporter at heart its hard to see what they will do in the next election especially around the northern towns like us because they are 'safe' seats so not much actually goes on because there will always be staunch Labour supporters. Hopefully the one good thing UKIP can do is give the other parties a kick up the arse to know they'r not safe whatever constituency they are in.

The one thing you can give the Greens and UKIP etc whether you like them or not is that they are offering an alternative. People always politics over whose done worse either Labour or Conservative because of Wilson or Thatcher but maybe it is time for a bit of change and see if that works

Good draw this, should hopefully not just get the away filled but bring in the floaters and fill the home ends

A few of my Wrexham supporting mates said they were unlucky not to beat Stoke in the 3rd round so hopefully when they come to Spotland we can give them a good game!
