Less than three weeks after he refereed Dale’s home friendly against Blackburn, Andy Haines returns to Spotland for the opening game of the season against Peterborough.

The Tyne & Wear official will make his 22nd appearance at Spotland in a refereeing capacity and although we can’t confirm this, we think that is probably a record for Dale’s home ground.

Before the Blackburn friendly, Andy was last at Spotland on Easter Monday for the League One fixture against Port Vale.

The game seemed destined for a 0-0 draw, before Calvin Andrew popped-up with his dramatic injury time goal to win the points for Dale.

Further back in time, Andy was the referee in April 2010 on the day Dale clinched promotion from League Two with a 1-0 victory over Northampton.
