Rose and Holt head departure list
Tuesday, 3rd May 2016 17:59 by Col

Michael Rose was the stand out name on the released list as Dale opted to release the retained list six days before the final game of the season.

With Keith Hill away for the final game of the season, he has made the decision to inform the players early to his intentions for next season, and as such a number of players have been released by the club.

Michael Rose is probably the one surprise on the list, after an outstanding second half of the season. Having come to the club from Colchester on Valentines Day 2013 launching a thousand Rose related headlines, he has gone on to make over 130 appearances from the club both at left back and in midfield. With his 34th birthday coming over the Summer, you would assume that Keith Hill will have one eye on the future with the young talent of Allen, Camps and Lund at his disposal for the midfield berths.

The second of the big names on the retained list is Grant Holt. It's been quite a cameo for Holty back at the ground which launched his career all those years ago, and whilst there is no doubting his arrival coincided with a massive upturn in form, he has been unable to earn himself a starting place and again with his best years behind him, we'd have been unlikely to see a bigger, better, fitter Grant Holt next season.

Rhys Bennett joins them on the departure list. The former Bolton youth player's biggest problem was probably being unable to find himself one position to call his own. He's been played at right back, centre half, midfield and even as a make shift forward in some games. He's not been helped by injuries but with just seven starts in the League this season, the writing was probably on the wall.

Reuben Noble-Lazarus is another player making his exit from the club. Having joined the club from Barnsley on an initial loan, he's been unable to break into the first team. There's been the odd little glimpse of his talent that we've seen when coming off the bench, but never enough to start any sort of clamour for him to start the next game.

Our most recent signing David Syers has also left. Having come to the club after an injury hit 18 months, he's struggled to break into the first team despite gaining praise on his debut.

The young trio of Billy Hasler Cregg, Joel Logan and Nyal Bell have also left the club. All three have spent time away from the club on loan, without returning to offer anything back at Spotland. It's been unfortunate for Hasler Cregg, as he's received many a plaudit whilst playing for Droylsden but its not been enough to convince Hill to extend his time with the club.
