I think acejack is very young - he needs to see the World a bit.

Islam is going through a transition and there is a fight going on within it. This is fundamental just like Christianity had this centuries ago - to suggest this is just a few warped individuals shows a complete lack of understanding and ignorance.

I'll say it again watch the panarama program in which this very subject is debated amongst Muslims.

If you call people racist for daring to talk about these issues then you're playing into the extremists hands that's precisely what they want.

Now I seriously need to sleep...

Extremely naive since the dawn of man we've been divided by tribe. If you look at history we were actually unified by religion in the early days and man progressed by the instrument of war right or wrong e.g. Hierarchies and order

That sign basically wants a society that has everyone looking the same being a nihilist - it's almost fascist in its own way. Pluralism has advanced the World e.g. Egyptians, Mesopotanians, Greeks

Conflict and resolution has advanced learning it is the development of mankind

As has been perfectly emphasised in this thread that standpoint is very difficult to argue as I do treat everyone the same I'm called a racist for questioning someone position on issues equally. There are aspects of the left that treat people with colour like they treat a pet - it's like argh bless they need help. If you want to stop racism, for a start stop talking about it and secondly stop giving people special treatment.

This thread is yet another example of posters fitting into neat catagories supporting panellists they agree with, ergo left people support anything or anyone anti Israel in this case.
My view is that we had here a poisonous piece of shite being an apologist for Jihadi terror. ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

On the other hand ,a pitifully weak anodyne Conservative minister who ll soon lose her job, basically trying not to offend.

At least GALLOWAY is honest enough not to be seen to give a shite.

Anna Soubry was embarrassing, such a wet lettuce.

I disagree I welcome intelligent debate from either flank. I can't abide people who shout and bully people which Hasan consistently does. Starkey can be a pompous prat but he has his own min and is willing to discuss difficult issues that's why Hasan wanted to close him down with his pathetic jibes.

Hasanhas been at this for many years.
Hates this country but makes a great living here

WE ,like most of Europe are at war, with an enemy as vicious as any before, but we have people who give tacit support and they do that by not condemning it outright; that included moderate muslims and IMAMS who should be out on the streets worldwide with the Qu`ran saying "not in my name". Allah doesn't want to be to be revenged nor does Mohammed, does he?

Be careful you'll be called a racist by their useful idiots.

I know he's been at it for years and I'm supposed to ignore him calling western people cattle am I because he's of a different origin.

The modern day thought police. They can be as offensive as they like but you try questioning tier World view.

Been called far worse than racist on.
Im afraid people are simple massive hypocrites

If you had kids who were due to start school and that school had interpreters to facilitate the lessons for MOST of the pupils then I d say you d be concerned.

If you had your kids with fellow pupils that were not encouraged to socialise with your kid, same thing.

Its all very well being liberal and open minded from your comfortable surburban white area b ut when faced with reality of multi ethnicity ,its different.

My area is more white than even Swansea; few if any people of colour live In the village and even Birkenhead and Wallasey- the largest towns are massively white majority.

Ive met many who moved up from London who ve said its (Wirral) a wonderful place because of it. I don't agree with that as such and some of the worse parts here are also free from people of colour and the areas are like Beirut,as Frank Field MP says.

You ll find people of colour in WHITE towns are business people who work their arses off and are fine people. It seems the ghettoes in multi-ethnic are entirely different with different values.

‘The kuffar, the disbelievers, the atheists who remain deaf and stubborn to the teachings of Islam, the rational message of the Koran; they are described in the Koran as “a people of no intelligence”, Allah describes them as not of no morality, not as people of no belief — people of “no intelligence” — because they’re incapable of the intellectual effort it requires to shake off those blind prejudices, to shake off those easy assumptions about this world, about the existence of God. In this respect, the Koran describes the atheists as “cattle”, as cattle of those who grow the crops and do not stop and wonder about this world.’
‘Once we lose the moral high-ground we are no different from the rest of the non-Muslims; from the rest of those human beings who live their lives as animals, bending any rule to fulfil any desire.’

Yeah pretty despicable.

There's a lot of sense spoken on this thread though, especially in regard to the double standards of the looney left which has always embarrassed and frustrated me.

Hasan is an unpleasant character and doesn't represent moderate Muslims. A wolf in sheep's clothing and as much as Starkey is a knobhead I wouldn't trust Hasan as far as I could throw Bayo...

Having someone less rabid on there as a foil to Starkey would make dull TV and the production team knew this...like sticking Darcus Howe and Nick Griffin in a broken lift.

Anyway fair play to Starkey, he's come a long way since driving through piles of cardboard boxes with his mate Hutch. Glad he wasn't wearing that terrible cardigan...

The irony of this thread is that Mehdi Hasan is a long, long way to the right of David Starkey in his views.

He is racist and homophobic and yet 'gets away' with it with the left because of his ethnicity.

Starkey is relatively left wing and gay and yet gets castigated by the 'left' because he is seen as a white 'posh bloke' and almost always manages to put his foot in it - last night has turned into a nonsense about him calling Mehdi 'Ahmed' and that turning into a 'racist' issue. What a load of nonsense -I've heard him on QT getting people's names wrong on a number of occasions - it's not because he's racist but because he's a bit of an old bloke.

Although he wasn't allowed to express his views fully and was being shouted down by Hasan (in his usual bullying fashion) Starkey's point on the cross roads for Islam that is happening at the moment is pretty close to the truth if anyone bothered to watch the very interesting Panorama discussion that had Moslem scholars discussing that very point.

In the interests in of full disclosure, I didn't watch QT and have no intention of doing so. I haven't watched it for some time because it's almost a light entertainment bearpit now and not a forum to sensible discussion about the issues of the day.

I've read a lot of Hassan's stuff and as far as politics goes I agree with much of it. His views on religion and Islam are much misrepresented and those misrepresentations have become accepted fact to some, as the contributions to this thread show. But there's no doubt that his adherence to some aspects of his faith leads to some glaring contradictions.

Starkey. I've read a lot of his history stuff and if he stuck to that he'd be fine. He's very good at it. But he's also a bigot, a misogynist and a failure as a human being. How he can be described as "left wing" with a straight face is beyond me. For a member of an often oppressed minority himself, his hectoring bigotry is astonishing.

Other opinions are available.

'relatively' left wing is what I said - i.e. in contrast to Hasan who is very, very right wing. He was at one point a Conservative candidate for something or other I think, but I also have read that he grew up in a very staunchly Labour household.

You are right though that he is a complete misogynist - he falls very neatly into the group of Oxbridge 'old queens' in that.

Bigot in general? Well I'm not so sure about that. He says things about race issues and so on that are sometimes ill judged or badly expressed, but ignoring the sensationalist aspects of it, it is often rooted in quite a common sense position.

Edited to add - I agree with your views in general on Question Time - it's usually populist nonsense and there are normally far better discussions on 'This Week' immediately following.

He is a bit of a bigot though, although his biggest crime for me if, for someone seemingly quite eloquent, he's usually very clumsy in getting his point across.

What he says gets a bit twisted though as well to make him sound worse.

As an example, last night he started the discussion of the teacher / 16 year old issue by stating categorically that the teacher was completely wrong. Within 2 seconds of the discussion that was twisted by Hasan to make it sound as though he was condoning what the teacher had done (Starkey that is) whereas he didn't even slightly do so.

What he said was that he had seen many 16 year olds who were very sexually aware and he could imagine a case where the 16 year old had 'seduced' the teacher. I thought it was a valid point given his starting point of 'the teacher was wrong'. The problem is that QT is so badly chaired it is unbelievable and panellists are allowed to twist the words of others without being slightly pulled up on it.

yes - I agree.

I don't know where the 'left' love of Hasan comes from though. If he was a white Christian and said some of the stuff he does about other religions, gay people and so on, he would be castigated.
